I think an honest assessment of Man's natural state, say the past million years, is that of very, very rigid roles, set by gender, family, and birth order.

  4. I will admit that I didn't educate myself much as to the provisions of this law, as I'm never going to be in the class of people who don't have insurance. The main thing I wanted was to eliminate the stupidity of an insurance company being able to reject someone because of a pre-existing condition, not because I have one - my health is amazingly good, as is that of my family - but because I could easily see myself being in that class. Health insurance as it existed prior to this law was a game of musical chairs, and that had to be outlawed. It was. Message to the righties: no way we're going back to that tyranny. Sorry.
So, the mandate thingie meant nothing to me personally.
But now that I've read that the penalty, so-called, is collected via the IRS, it's pretty obviously a tax. As such, there was simply no way the court could rule it was unconstitutional. The correct way of viewing this is that the USG was now going to collect a tax to pay for treating the uninsured, and that tax would be paid by the uninsured themselves, with the usual exemptions for those too poor to pay it.
I am amazed at the utter ineptitude of the lawyer representing the Admin, who leaned heavily on the Commerce clause. No way it was justifiable under that.
It is a tax. As such, it can be repealed, or it can be spindled, folded and mutilated by the Congress just like the income tax. But Roberts' position is: the Congress has to do it, not the court.
    Very simple, actually.

    Congrats, AK. :)

Given all the reichtard mega-whining here and elsewhere over a thoroughly toothless mandate (zero penalty for not paying the "tax" (UUUH, a TAX! ) for not having health insurance), you'd think we had been invaded by Iran or something. In fact, one asshole Congresscritter did compare today's ruling to 9/11. :D

Quit soiling your panties, you conservababies. ZERO-PENALTY TAX = BLUFF

What pathetic losers you clowns are.

  6. If you're referring to the roles within families, then sure that's a good assessment. As for a role in society, liberty has proven a more effective and stronger force than tyranny but for some reason we in the US are moving the opposite way.. willingly. Except it isn't the people bearing the burden of these new rules that support this movement, it is the beneficiaries. Entitlements are gonna be the downfall of Western civ.

Answer this for me honestly: do you see the potential created by this new obamacare tax/mandate to be abused? According to the history of our govt, do you think it will be abused?

IMO Roberts just declared OPEN SEASON on taxpayers.

  10. So much nonsense. Everyone who has health care, no changes. If you don't have it, and want taxpayers, other taxpayers, to pay for your medical care, like welfare, then fine I guess. But, if you want actual conservative values, like personal responsibility, then you want those who don't have health care to pay for it themselves - or get a fine/tax, whatever, to offset costs. How this ever got screwed around to a liberal freebie, I just don't see. And neither did Heritage or Romney. Just so easy to pull by the nose those who must follow, must follow, partisan lines. Not much thinking going on.

New businesses have one less thing to worry about, let their future hires get covered. Single payer would have been much better, but this at least helps all businesses, I know it does mine.
