So now we know what was the real idea behind the plan. It's been well established that without millions signing up the ACA fails. So they threw up a 95 dollar fine as the ruse that would motivate people to sign up. They implied it would be cheap, hence the name Affordable. In some cases implied it would be free. Told us there would be choices. Told us you could keep your plan, no problem. Now comes the truth. The real cattle prod being used to "steer" people into the government plan. Guess what people of America. You just lost your health insurance. Tens of millions of you. Done, kicked out to the curb. What'cha gonna' do? They have to go somewhere. We're not talking about some 23 year old guy who doesn't give a shit and will pay the fine. They knew they'd never get that guy. No, we're talking about hard working Americans. People with families. People with responsibilities. They won't go without healthcare. They can't. So they'll pay more in premiums. They'll pay higher deductibles. They'll be forced into plans they don't want.
And let's assume that many of them do pay up for these new plans...discretionary spending takes a serious nosedive. After all, when you look at how much more they will be paying per month (not even including the deductables), that's several hundred dollars per month that WILL NOT make it's way to local restaurants, the movie theatre, the new car, Christmas shopping, etc, etc... Of course, this just opens the door for the perpetual ZIRP (which was already wide open), but now it's just more "supporting data".
"If you like your doctor you will be able to keep your doctor. Period," Obama said in a speech in Chicago in 2009. "If you like your healthcare plan, you will be able to keep your healthcare plan. Period." Obama lies....again.
Anyone estimated the slowdown in the economy from less consumer spending yet? These huge premium increases are not small change for working folks.
My thoughts exactly. Of course, their leaders are guys like John McCain who seems more interested in putting Ted Cruz in his place than winning. He must imagine the Senate is like the Naval Academy and Cruz is some plebe who must endure a bit of hazing. Or the losers who run the House. They are frantic that this Obamacare dustup will get in the way of delivering an amnesty sellout for their corporate masters. If they had united behind their one real leader, Cruz, they could have delivered Obama a crushing defeat plus come up as winners with the voters.
I'm shopping for insurance and on the Texas Blue Cross Blue Shield website the plans ranged from $306 to $750+ From what I remember about the same as before. Except my bad knee history doesn't bump my premiums. So in my case it looks like a good deal compared to before. I'm going to go through a broker when I purchase to help narrow down the many options out there.
