Obama just said in his speech, "Our economy as a whole is more efficient. We're producing more oil and we're importing less." He is either a liar or a fool or both. T. Boon Pickens says oil imports rose 28% in 2010. http://www.tulsaworld.com/business/...ticleid=20110120_46_E1_CUTLIN957588&rss_lnk=5 U.S. Oil Production Down, Imports Up http://washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/2011/03/us-oil-production-down-imports
According to your chosen graph, we are indeed importing less and producing more since he took office.
The graph was a little misleading near the end because of the 2008-09 recession. This longer term chart doesn't seem to include data since Obama was elected. I've replaced it with more recent data links which are more relevant to Obama's statement.
I just ran the data from EIA. He is definitely distorting stats to his advantage, but if you make the argument that we are talking about from the day he took office till now, then his statements are correct.
right, he's including the great recession as a starting points. usual bullshit in statistic manipulation.
