Yeah, Chris Rock is the man, it surprised me very much that the guy is a democrat, as he is a big preacher of personal responsibility both in his comedy, and in stories about his real life. Calling someone a redneck is far more benign in intent than calling someone a porch monkey. That is again, just my opinion. I think even those who openly disagree, inwardly understand. In my opinion it depends where its coming from, there is a big difference between a white man calling a black person a n****R and two black people using it as a term of endearment. Just as there is a big difference between 2 white people calling each other rednecks, and a black person walking up to a white person and calling him a redneck. When you really think about it, there is almost no difference between chris rocks video i posted, and jeff foxworthy's "you might be a redneck" Basically both words are used to describe the scum of their own race. Personally i wish that both sides would drop their guard, and quit defining words which are "racially offensive" I have no problem with someone calling me a cracker or a honkey, i do have a problem though with guys like rcg who try to proclaim all of his opposition is racist, while he himself delivers the same slurs right back at them. If people just learned to laugh at these words, they would hold no derogatory value, the reason why most people think n****r is worse than redneck is because a redneck will laugh when called a red neck, where as a black person will lose his shit if he is called a n****r, which is exacvtly what gives the word power. Funniest comedian i have ever seen is russell peters, the guy is a god at making fun of various racial stereotypes, and he is always spot on, and somehow he gets a pass on everything, because he is brown, lol. If people learned to laugh at it, as opposed to getting their panties in a twist wed be far better off. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/AxbrXD0kgrQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
It is a little different. I mean, you don't see some guy out there writing a bunch of jokes entitled "You might be a nigger if...". There are no t-shirts in open circulation with "nigger and proud". Heck, even the fact that you place asterisks over the word on the forum means you have an inherent feeling that the word isn't even acceptable to type. I don't see you typing "r*dn*ck" or the equivalent. One word is quite obviously intended to be more ruthless than the other, by far. Now, we can debate the reason this is the case, but the fact remains: It is.
Au contraire my friend I'm not making a silly leap that hasn't already been claimed before elsewhere by the PC police. http://vpvantagepoint.wordpress.com/2009/06/17/jungle-gym-called-racist-term-on-cnn/ http://www.zdnet.com/news/microsoft-sued-for-racist-application/102676 http://forum.prisonplanet.com/index.php?action=printpage;topic=165043.0 http://www.urbanbaby.com/topics/1721696
Perhaps not, but I never said it and bringing into the conversation to use against me has nothing to do with any point I made in regards to you, or anything you said. Rail against the rest of the silly world, if you like.
Not really, and you know it, bud. Again tho, it is what it is. I don't really care to discuss what the rest of the civilized world sees as self evident.
The only reason the term 'redneck' isn't considered as vial as some other racial slurs is because white people are generally comfortable in their skin. We don't get upset by being called a name attached to being white. People with other skin colors are not so comfortable in their skin and get hung up on words describing them. The evolution of the 'accepted' term to describe a black man, for instance, has gone through many permutations as one after the other eventually gets rejected as a slur. Here's just a few that have been used by government and others just during my lifetime that are now mostly taboo. N____ African Negro Colored Today it's Black or African American Tomorrow it could be Shaded or Savannan

You're doing it too. "N_____". You can't even type it. Why? If it's just a word that has no real meaning behind it, why do you have problem putting letters behind it? It's because the word is vile. The intent behind the word is essentially as negative as you can get in referring to African Americans. There are no equivalents to whites - even Redneck doesn't work. White Trash is a bit more offensive, and I'd argue is almost entirely meant as an insult. Redneck is sometimes used in affectionate, humorous and acceptable manners. People go to Foxworthy's shows wearing "Proud to Be a Redneck" shirts. It's not about the people themselves, but more about their lifestyle. It's different, and you know it is.
I place asterisks on it, because i dont care for the word, what i said before though is that it depends on where it comes from, you know as well as i do that RCG's useage of the word redneck is meant a a slur on white people, i suppose your right there really is no way to use the word N*****r as a white person without it coming across as a racial slur. One thing i will say though, having grown up in toronto, in an area that was predominantly black and brown people, in canada people are far less sensitive when it comes to making fun of someone based on race, i will gladly make cracks about my black friends that are stereotypes based on race, and they do the same to me, and neither of us gets offended. The states is a whole different ballgame when it comes to this shit, there is always someone waiting to be offended should somnene use the wrong word. Until that changes there will be no integration amongst races in the states.
