Obama to announce increase in taxes for businesses and wealthy

  1. The kids should pay for the business just like anyone else who did not build it would. Why should they get a free farm or business?

I am not even more dumb (actually, it is DUMBER, as in "dumb and dumber") than you first thought, because you yourself have yet to think. You have merely insulted me, and an insult is no substitute for independent thought.

Why would the kids have to pay the government for the business? They should get it for free if their families want them to have for free.

Double taxation, the government already taxed it. No need for them to get their greedy hands on it again.

I don't like taxes, but it's time for reality to set in for Democrats AND Republicans. Even under Reagan, the top tax bracket was 50% for the majority of his time in office, and that's nothing compared to the 91% from '51 to '63, most of which with a Republican president.

From 1917 to 2002, the top tax rate was at least 39% (the same rate the current administration proposes) for 74 years (86%), with the years preceding the Great Depression the most notable exception.

Given our current climate, even with a Republican in office, taxes would need to be raised at some point.

We did not have any federal income taxes at all tell we got the federal researve

The argument would be that without the government, you wouldn't be able to hang on to the fruits of your efforts due to lack of law & order, foreign invasion etc. You're just one guy, without police, courts or army your wealth would most likely be stolen, extorted, or defrauded from you. It's not so much a matter of entitlement as choosing the lesser of the various evils on offer.

Now once you go beyond security and law and military defence, people would say that just because someone gets born with Down's syndrome or gets cancer, doesn't mean they should be left to die on the street. So if society is going to assist them, someone's gotta pay for it. That means you and I and anyone else earning a decent living or better. The alternative is a truly minimal state, however democracies have consistently shown that most people don't want that - they want a welfare state, paid for by the rich and middle class.

Effectively, most people vote that it's ok to steal from you to fund the poorer part of society.

  6. Why should they get it for free? What did they do to earn that business?

I support higher estate taxes and lower income taxes because I value hard work, not handouts. Taxing labor penalizes those who work and work hard; not taxing inheritance rewards those who are lucky not to have to work (like Paris Hilton).

Estate taxes are just one of many forms of double taxation.

No one likes paying taxes, but since there is no choice in that matter, why not make it as fair as possible?

How is that any more dumb than the first 5 months that someone works every year being handed over to the government. If something is going to be taxed, better to tax lucky sperm than hard work.

  8. Given your logic, it is "lucky" to watch a family member die in front of you, so that the Government can then subject the Estate of that Family to double-taxation and another 55% in taxes.

    How idiotically absurd.

  9. Think about this simple question with a very complicated answer: How does an economy expand?

If low taxes always meant a bigger economy why are economies with zero income tax not infinite? After thinking about it you will come to the conclusion that there are other factors that limit the economy size other than tax rates.

Tax rates should be a faction of spending. It is rather easy to manipulate people in the USA by lowering tax rates because that is what people think about. What they should be thinking about is what the money is being spent on.

Do you care about protecting Poland? I don't.

  10. Your insistence on such a stupid opinion vexes me. People inheriting the family farm or business have usually had to work their asses off on/in it from a very young age, and usually without any pay until they are of age. So the government deserves it? because they worked so hard to deserve it?

If transferring a family business to the next generation becomes even more expensive than it already is no younger generation family members will ever participate in the business, sice they are essentially throwing all their sweat equity out of the window.

    so dumb.
