Bad press, including major mockery of the plan by comedian Jon Stewart, led to President Obama abandoning his proposal to require veterans carry private health insurance to cover the estimated $540 million annual cost to the federal government of treatment for injuries to military personnel received during their tours on active duty. The President admitted that he was puzzled by the magnitude of the opposition to his proposal. "Look, it's an all volunteer force," Obama complained. "Nobody made these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice? It doesn't compute.." The exact quote is satire from Comedy Central. The truth behind it is that he made a dumb proposal to force veterans' private insurers to pay for combat-related injuries. He got his head handed to him, and it died. Happened back in March and April. Why it's being dredged from the depths now is beyond me.
Of course, it should be "abandoned"... that it was ever even SUGGESTED OR CONSIDERED... says much about the man.
Given that your satire was exactly that, despite the fact that you dishonestly didn't label it as such, that the effect of the actual, real world proposal on veterans would have been indirect, and that as soon as the indirect effect was pointed out in no uncertain terms, it was withdrawn, what, exactly, do you think it says?
