  1. Dude: Ron Paul believes abortion should be prohibited by the states. He believes such laws should not be subject to CHALLANGE in the Federal courts. I agree. But don't kid yourself. His and mine is an EXTREME view. MORE EXTREME than any quote (and I've spent hours looking) attributed to Palin. She says NOTHING about the LEGAL issue of abortion. It's folks like you whio ASSUME that just because she's pro-life that she favors abortion laws. That may be so but there is no written RECORD of her expressing that view. Here is an article in huffingtonwhore.com critical of Palin's statements on abortion. Read it and then tell me where she say's she'd make abortion ILLEGAL. Saying you're "against" something is not tantamount to saying you'd legally PROHIBIT it.

P.S. This is an example of her political intelligance. She's VERY careful on issues like this.

  3. True. Unless you're talking about a religious zealot - in which case all bets are off.

  4. It's not a litmus. I'm not religous per se' and I'm anti-abortion whereas John Kerry for instance is a daily communicant.

Bottom line: As stated Ron Paul the Great Libertarian is about as anti-choice as any politician in America. No one knows Palin's view on abortion legalities. Point Pabst.:p

  6. Wouldn't a true maverick be more forthcoming about her views? I would think that a genuine maverick would say "(political) gamesmanship be damned!!"

Sarah Palin - Just another politician.

  7. Why be "forthcoming" about a meaningless non-issue? Has Alaska attempted passage of any no-abortion bills?

Abortion is legal vis a vis Roe v Wade. Has been for 3 decades. Regardless what her or anyone else's view it has no more relevance legally than her opinion of the Ravens plus the points.....

Besides: I'm sure you've read the NRA thread. Obama is the PRESIDENTIAL nominee yet he resorts to the oldest lie in the book: My aide filled out that questionaire. Bullshit.

If you don't know what her stands on abortion legalities are, Why , on earth , did you say Sarah Palin and Ron Paul share similar ideology?

  9. "The problem is that FFL doesn't just oppose abortion. FFL wants abortion to be illegal. All abortions, period, including those for rape, incest, health, major fetal defects and, although Foster resisted admitting this, even some abortions most doctors would say were necessary to save the woman's life. (Although FFL is not a Catholic organization, its rejection of therapeutic abortion follows Catholic doctrine.) FFL wants doctors who perform abortions to be punished, possibly with prison terms."

    http://www.thenation.com/doc/20050829/pollitt

    Supporting evidence for above statement:
FFL Amicus Brief for Bray v. Alexandria Women's Health Clinic

"The early feminists defied many social conventions, but saw abortion, which they consistently referred to by terms such as "child-murder," as the result of unequal treatment of women, not a solution to that problem. They supported laws restricting abortion, as well as vigorous efforts against what they considered to be its root causes. "

"The Early Feminist Opposition to Abortion Included Support for Legal Restrictions Upon Abortion, and Enforcement of Such Restrictions."

"Senator Duke noted during floor debate on the Ku Klux Klan Act that procured abortion was itself an illegal act. Thus, to conspire privately to peaceably block the doors to an abortion clinic no more deprives women of the essential rights of national citizenship to equally participate in the political or judicial process, than a sit-in at a segregated lunch counter deprives potential restaurant patrons of their citizenship rights."

"Simply put, the respondents here support the act of abortion, and its legalization. The petitioners oppose the act of abortion"

The position of Feminists for Life on 'abortion legalities' is quite clear. Sarah Palin is a member of FFL.

    More evidence:
"Palin is anti-choice and is a member of an “anti-abortion group called Feminists for Life.” In 2002, when she was running for lieutenant governor, “Palin sent an e-mail to the anti-abortion Alaska Right to Life Board saying she was as ‘pro-life as any candidate can be’ and has ‘adamantly supported our cause since I first understood, as a child, the atrocity of abortion.’”"

I can offer you a hypothesis.

  10. I wasn't speaking about abortion in my original post at all. It's YOU who brought up abortion. I was speaking about their identical views on states rights and implicit anti-Federalism stands. It's Paul remember who has said states need not feel compelled to strike legislation based on Supreme Court rulings.

I know Dr. Paul's view on abortion intimately though and figured it's a safe bet that almost NO ONE is as extreme in their pro-life views as Paul. The controversial Anne Kilkenny e-mail was the first hint that Palin wasn't the pro-life zealot she's been portrayed:

This is from the mouth of an anti-Palinite in Alaska:

“Pro-life”: mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life legislation."
