Bush On Jobs: The Worst Track Record On Record

President George W. Bush entered office in 2001 just as a recession was starting, and is preparing to leave in the middle of a long one. That’s almost 22 months of recession during his 96 months in office.

His job-creation record won’t look much better. The Bush administration created about three million jobs (net) over its eight years, a fraction of the 23 million jobs created under President Bill Clinton’s administration and only slightly better than President George H.W. Bush did in his four years in office.

Here’s a look at job creation under each president since the Labor Department started keeping payroll records in 1939. The counts are based on total payrolls between the start of the month the president took office (using the final payroll count for the end of the prior December) and his final December in office.

Because the size of the economy and labor force varies, we also calculate in percentage terms how much the total payroll count expanded under each president. The current President Bush, once taking account how long he’s been in office, shows the worst track record for job creation since the government began keeping records. –Sudeep Reddy

  3. Hello

    Hello

Bush also had to deal with the collapse of the tech bubble, and 911 which neither could be considered his fault, unless of course you lefties want to say that the entire economy is Obamas fault.

If Bush would have taken the same steps during his presidency when the bubble collapsed, and 911 hit which was basically to soak rich people to give money to people who dont work, his unemployment numbers would have looked just as bad as Obamas.

Not defending Bush as he was a complete idiot, but he did take the right steps at the start of his presidency to spur economic growth, where as Obama is doing just the opposite.

  4. OBAMA DOESN'T CARE ABOUT JOBS. He cares about his agenda. And he understands... when people become dependent upon government largess, it is easy to control them. Once "enough" are under such dependence, America will be Socialist... which will take a bloody revolution to "fix", if it's going to be fixed at all. Not even a matter of "if" any more... just when.

  5. You are the naive liberal type:

The Adult Recession: Age-Adjusted Unemployment at Post-War Highs

    July 2010, David Rosnick

Since the Great Depression, the worst episode of unemployment came in the second half of 1982 and the first half of 1983. Over that time, the unemployment rate stayed above ten percent from September through June—reaching 10.8 percent of the labor force in November and December of 1982. A naïve examination of the raw unemployment rates would suggest that the downturn of the early 1980s resulted in a labor market even weaker than what we have experienced as a result of the collapse of the housing bubble. However, the demographics of the labor force have changed significantly over the last quarter century. After adjusting for the aging of the population since the early 1980s, the current labor-market downturn has resulted in both a higher unemployment rate and a longer period when the rate of unemployment remained over 10 percent.

  8. Like how the dems count jobs lost as opposed to jobs gained and claim victory?

What was the UE rate when Bush's presidency ended? It's funny, I've asked this question numerous times but no liberal on ET will dare answer it.

    Gee, I wonder why!?
