Do you think it's even remotely possible that any President has denied the use of the teleprompter since it was available in the early 80's? Of course not. No reasonable person would. The problem is that Bush can't read well. That ruled Cue cards out too. And his Ad Libs sucked.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20090305/pl_politico/19663 "Obamaâs reliance on the teleprompter is unusual â not only because he is famous for his oratory, but because no other president has used one so consistently and at so many events, large and small. After the teleprompter malfunctioned a few times last summer and Obama delivered some less-than-soaring speeches, reports surfaced that he was training to wean himself off of the device while on vacation in Hawaii. But no such luck. "
This teleprompter thing seems perfect for Saturday Night Live satire. The teleprompter can become its own character. Or a character on Letterman. Letterman is still making Bush/cheney jokes. How about a scene where Obama's teleprompter leaves and Obama just stands there and stutters, just like he does. How bout a bit about how awful of a speaker Obama is off the teleprompter. Will they have the courage?
