I keep seeing this talking point yet see no polling to back it up.

A few lefties made some posters and fox etal ran with their fear mongering campaign. Most of this "defund the police" talk came from the right putting it on blast while the squad played defense trying to explain what "it meant".

And let's be honest, no one would be talking if "reform the police" was the slogan and without people getting rowdy. No one in America pays attention to peaceful demonstrations. What was the women's March about anyway?

    Some people did some things.

Progressive Dems fire back at Obama after he criticizes 'Defund the police' movement

    ...
Obama made the comments during an interview with Peter Hamby on the Snapchat original political show "Good Luck America" that aired Wednesday morning.

"You lost a big audience the minute you say it, which makes it a lot less likely that you're actually going to get the changes you want done," Obama said. "The key is deciding, do you want to actually get something done, or do you want to feel good among the people you already agree with?"

His comments drew a sharp rebuke from several progressive Democrats.

"We lose people in the hands of police," Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., shot back. "It’s not a slogan but a policy demand. And centering the demand for equitable investments and budgets for communities across the country gets us progress and safety."...

  6. Apparently the reason that a groundswell of west coast and other cities have actually passed substantial defund the police enactments is because they all just watch Fox News.

    Yeh, that's it.

    Idiot.

  8. In politics you dont get a chance to explain what you mean when a phrase goes viral and if the phrase is wrong or not what they meant they could have stopped repeating it and making it a mantra.

I can find tons of photos of the movement with their Defund the Police mantra taking center stage. The issue was reform. Might not be sexy but it is what is needed. Squad like AOC has no understanding of this.

Not at all. I fully support the total defunding of police movement in Minnesota as a test case. I'm very interested in seeing how it will work out. So far, it seems like it is off to a wonderful start with car jacking up some 500+ %.

    mountains out of molehills brosepho:

A Monmouth University Polling Institute poll from June 26-June 30, 2020, asked the question, "When you hear people say they want to 'Defund the Police' – do you think most of them really want to get rid of police departments or do you think most of them just want to change the way police departments operate?" 77% responded that the slogan means people want to "Change the way police operate", and 17% responded that the term means to "get rid of police".[60]
