Not for me it wasn't, connection issues, erratic quotes flicking back and forth, and error messages as in this post. I think quite a few people on their forums had similar issues as well. I managed to trade on Oanda for about half an hour in the afternoon and 1 trade around the FOMC and that was it, 7 trades all wins, 33 pips (but most of them had slippage in and out!). I traded CMC's platform pretty much all day no problems, they very rarely have platform problems no matter what the market conditions. Oanda have just got too unreliable unfortunately, I can't trade comfortably thinking the platform might go down at any minute ~
I have accounts with various ECNs but have a small account with Oanda for strat positions and other times I see fit. I am staggered at its policy. Throughout the last two weekends it has been possible to trade all the yen crosses at the price of the Friday close. This despite all the Fannie, Freddie and Lehman developments. Surely all you Oanda fans have cleaned up? I really can't see why they offer this facility though. Incidentally I have had no problems logging in at all this week.
No connection problems, oh right, you're one of the few then if you have a read of their forums! Yup, placing trades over the weekend can be a useful feature but unfortunately the other problems outweigh that benefit, maybe it would be an idea to keep a balance just for the weekend facility seeing as Oanda pay interest and don't have an inactivity fee
Another good day for the Oanda platform, no disconnections, no slippage, instant fills....perfect! 18 trades, 16 wins 87 pips, 2 losses 4 pips, +83 pips This volatile market is just so perfect for my strategy! ~
Same here, another day of smooth running. In fact, most all days are smooth running with Oanda. It's just those bad days attract way more attention than the good. For example, how come forestgril never checks in on these good days? As for the volatility, I wish it was like this every trading day. Fast and furious!
You're right, the bad days stand out but on average I suppose Oanda don't do too bad, they're unbeatable when things are like they've been today. It's just when things go wrong, they go wrong big time! I've just been watching a program about the FSA suspending short selling in the stock market, we're very fortunate trading forex.....until some bright spark decides the world needs a single currency, then we're screwed
Cause I am an agent of GFT! Recently I don't play at all - no time. But maybe You are right... If the bottom line with the broker is the profit, why not play? But Cable, if You've had slippage on most of the trades, in and out, why play with Oanda? If You pay bigger spread because of the slippage, they cease to be advantageous in comparison to other brokers. If You add the platform issues they look even more miserably... Why the heck trade with Oanda?
Not my choice unfortunately, client accounts, and as the only other broker who I've found reliable (CMC) doesn't have PAMM or LAMM I'm stuck with OlsenandAssociates. Still having the occasional disconnect but what's new, it's better than it has been.....
. Is anyone else who uses FXManager for FXTrade getting these emails, 5 in the space of 2 minutes and I haven't even got any open positions, lol, Oanda's gone nuts  And check out the NAV, -118k!! -------------------------------------------------------------------- FXManager Account xxxxxx, Account Critical: Some client accounts are in a margin call situation Dear xxx, One or more clients in your managed account xxx are in a margin call situation WARNING: WHEN CLIENT MARGINS DROP BELOW MARGIN CALL, THE OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO YOU WILL BE LIMITED BY THE SOFTWARE The following client accounts require your attention: Client Account NAV Margin Percent xxx -118427.603914 0.0 Because these client accounts are part of your managed account, OANDA will not close their open positions. However, please note that these accounts are approaching a negative balance. Clients with a negative balance may affect the overall ROI for all the clients in your managed account. NOTE: If your entire managed account is approaching margin call, please note that all open positions for all clients will be closed at margin call. To review OANDA's margin policy for FXTrade accounts, refer to the Margin Explanation document To view current status To view the current status of these affected accounts, start FXManager and select the managed account xxx. from the Accounts table. Go to the Clients table. Clients close to margin call are highlighted in red. (To see all columns related to margins, right-click over any column heading in the Clients table. In the window that appears, click on the checkboxes beside Margin Used, Margin Available, Margin Call and Margin Percent.) Recommendation If you have not reproportioned your client funds properly, some of your client accounts may show margin call situations. In this case, you should rebalance the open positions to ensure that Profit/Loss from open trades is distributed equitably. (It is recommended you reproportion by NAV for an equitable distribution.) NOTE: When a client account is in a margin call situation, you can only reproportion to reduce its margin (exposure). This may result in client loss. (Go to the FXManager User Guide for Managers to understand how reproportioning works.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------
