Does anyone know if there's a nice downloadable list, showing each stock with its corresponding specialist and post? Has anyone assembled such a list yet? It seems like any time I try to get information from the NYSE, I find they are back in the stone age when it comes to IT :-(
I know this post is from awhile ago when I was trading. Reality forced me to stop, but now Im back. I relied on the marketrac site for some of my stock screening, so this time around I went there hoping to plug into the mothership again. Can get on site, but when I click on specific post to see what is traded there, get an "error on page" msg in the lower left of status bar in internet explorer. Requested support fm nyse via email, no answer. Are others out there able to access the post information? Did nyse disable this portion of their site? Do I need some java plugin or equivalent? Are there other sources of information that can tell me what stocks are traded at which posts? Thanks for your help. Javaboy
Thanks for your reply, jrodriguez. I'm really bummed and so I look to the help of all of et. My trading idea relies heavily on the "order of importance" the specialists place on the stocks they are trading, specifically, I am looking for stocks that from a volume point of view are second tier. For example, many specialists will handle say, 5 or 6 stocks, with one, maybe two, being those the specialist pays attention to first when the mkt makes a move. I am interested in stock number three--still has some liquidity because of volume, yet is not constantly on the specialist's radar. So if the nyse marketrac--which had this information in a very slick graphical interface--is not providing any information, where can I get it? Any ideas? I was thinking of filtering my stocks first, then finding the specialist firm whatever stock I intended on trading, to call them directly to see what volume position their specialist trades the stock (if you understand what I am trying to say, that's cool, because its kinda hard to explain). Anyway, I see problems with this, primarily the firm has no motive to provide me w/ the info I need. Indeed, they have motivation to mislead me, if only for sport. I know that there are a lot of people out there w/ a whole lot more mkt contacts/info that I dont have, and I look forward to their help. Thanks.
javaboy, I used to ride the train everyday with specialist clerks and would from time to time get to see the daily p/l...and guess what...they always made money on the 2nd or third tier stock as you call them. You have to remember the best trader in the stock for obvious reasons is the specialist...and these are the daily bread and butter for them. Low vol stocks don't have many floor brokers showing up with size ,so the specialists are the size if they want to be...with no floor brokers at the post they can move these stocks with ease in the direction that means the most profit for them. Be careful trading them.
Whoa, shaq48, quick response, thx. As for the low vol stocks, I appreciate your observation that the specialist is the 800 lb gorilla. I like to think that I get around this because the stocks I have traded in the past (about a yr ago), had a "low volume" of 500-750k shares/day, so not really too, too low volume. But getting to my quest: do you--or anybody else--know how to get to the info re volume ranking of stocks at each post? Javaboy
oi javaboy nice to know some still trading the nyse.... see my thread about illiquid nyse stocks.. personal fav is ATH
Oh ye of little faith. Hey, where is the postingl of your monograph of illiquid nyse stocks? Would love to hear what you got to say. Tried trading something a little quicker in my earlier days--you know that cute little thing called the qqq--and it kicked my ass. Call me a (converted) traditionalist (used to love watching nasdaq)..... Javaboy.
http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21128&highlight=illiquid it didn't generate alot of discussion which was surprising since there is an edge in tape reading that no indicator can give.
My bad. Thanks to those who posted re marketrac at nyse being down. Out of curiosity, this evening went to site and clicked around there and every once and a while the javascript to show the post's volume order came up. So I got bright and deleted a lot of the internet cookie and temp file caches on my computer, and low and behold marketrac working again like a charm. Aint technology great.... Javaboy
