Nymex Crude

Discussion in 'Energy Futures' started by asdfghj7, Dec 27, 2007.

  1. Is the Nymex Brent Crude oil contract traded electronically, and does anyone know what the average daily volume is? Genesis Trade Navigator shows the Brent Crude contract with a symbol 'IC'. The average daily volume is around 170,000. I've yet to find someone who knows if this is an electronic or pit traded contract. Thanks for your help.

There are a few ways to trade brent on nymex. i don't recognize that IC symbol you have. (the IC i know on nymex is a NG calenday spread option)

you can go to that link to look at all of the products traded on nymex. theres quite a few ways to play brent. there's another spot on the site where you can find open interest by contract, but you'll have to do some of that digging on your own. hope this helps.

It's the red haired stepchild to the Sweet Light Crude that is kept in the spot light. Here's some info:

The contract is available for trading on the CME Globex® trading platform from 6:00 PM Sundays through 5:15 PM Fridays, with a 45-minute break each day between 5:15 PM and 6:00 PM. Off-Exchange transactions can be submitted solely for clearing to the NYMEX ClearPort® clearing website as an exchange of futures for swaps (EFS) or exchange of futures for physicals (EFP) transaction until 5:15 PM, Monday through Friday, and the day preceding a holiday.

So yes, everything is traded electronically, I just don't know what kind of volume you're going to get with it.

Here's the main page. You can see that BZ doesn't get much play (why are you interested as compared to CL btw? jus curious).

  4. The volume on the NYMEX brent is 0.

The Brent at the ICE exchange is about 250k daily on ave.
You can also trade de the ICE WTI contract (170k dialy on ave) and Gasoil (77k daily on ave) and all the NYBOT softs.

BTW: Nymex WTI vol is about 400k a day and the Nymex NatGas vol is about 100k a day, gasoline and Heating Oil over 60k a day on ave.
