Automotive chip makers have tighter regulation with regards to quality.

Whether people should trust the programming logic is another thing. Unfortunately, most of the lessons will have to be learned the hard way like needing seatbelts. You definitely don't want to be an early adopter in this area.

    Let's stick to Nvidia, folks.

m1nt and Tim Smith like this.
  3. That's not what the technological world of Amazon, Google, Tesla, Nvidia, etc and every auto manufacturer believes as the technology is here now and is being implemented and already on the roads. Every 2017 Tesla will have Nvidia Drive PX2. Braking assist, self parking vehicles, accident avoidance and very soon full on self driving vehicles.

Computer technology enables millions to fly every day, works pretty well doesn't it?

How do these full autopilot cars know where the road is?
It can't be visual, a good 3 inches of snow would wipe that out. GPS is not that accurate. I don't see sensors being installed on every road in America anytime soon. How's it work?

    I agree with Steve M.
    Lawsuit extravaganza.

More media hype imo. Aided of course by Elon dreaming big and jacking up his stock price.

  5. So you don't understand or know anything about the technology ....and that has led you to conclude that it must be media hype and Elon Musk jacking up his stock price?

I remember back in the 80's people not understanding emerging computer technology and not able to envision computers in every home, a phone in your hand etc missing out on Apple, Microsoft, Intel and other great tech companies and their stock. People would blah blah blah how it will never happen computers are too expensive too big, a phone in your hand that's Star Trek futuristic nonsense etc. Thankfully people like Jobs and Gates were able to see the future and savvy investors were able to profit. Musk and Huang are building the future here and now along with every other car manufacturer.

I suggest everyone to do their own homework and read up. Lots of myopic misinformed responses that show a lack of understanding of the technology jumping to false conclusions.

Lidar sensors, Radar sensors, camera, gps (which is accurate to 2-3 meters) powered by Drive PX 2 installed on the car not on roads or highways. It works today right now in any weather and road conditions, snow, rain, fog.

This was last year. CES 2017 begins January 4. Expect to see some incredible technology from Nvidia. I suggest viewing the presentation it will be available on the Nvidia website.

Geez dude...I just asked a question about how it works. Relax.
2-3 meters is a pretty big margin of error too btw if you drive much.
I just wanted to know how the f'r works when it snows.
Re-the 1980's... Zandy foresaw everything today and more.
It was all passed down from Grandma Zandy.

  7. It doesn't sound like you are comprehending today's technology.

You said, "More media hype imo. Aided of course by Elon dreaming big and jacking up his stock price"

You'll find a lot of good info at the Nvidia website to further explain the technology to you.

You're right. I misspoke. Elon Musk never plays the media hype card. I don't know what I was thinking.
I'll do a little DD on NVDA in the realm of autonomous cars on snow covered roads....
But just know, from a Wall Street perspective, mass production of self driving cars incorporating NVDA chipsets do not necessarily the next quarter make. Years away bro. And that's (quarterly) pretty much how stocks trade. Especially chip stocks.

Back when I was in college, I decided to take an evening course on Introduction to Telecommunications for my free elective.

It was mostly based on telephone circuit based networks. Then one night, the teacher started to completely stray away from the syllabus. He became completely animated! He did an exposition on some packet-based D.A.R.P.A network that was slowly being opened to the public and growing at an exponential rate. His hand would follow the graph repeatedly and point to the sky, as if waving to the gods.

I told him: Prof, you're crazy dude. Are we all eventually making wireless calls?

  10. That's not what the market thinks now does it? Nvidia stock performance says otherwise. How many quarters in a row has Nvidia been beating earnings? It's been going on for quite a while now. The stock has responded in kind. I'll rely on that, the performance of the stock, explosive earnings growth and the emerging technologies Auto, AI, VR, etc and not your insightful opinions like "Years away bro". But thanks anyway.

From LAST Quarter>>>> Automotive YTD16 -- YTD17 58% Growth Rate $359 Million in Revenue from Auto Division.
