I'm sure he must have made money shorting TSLA in 2022 unless he already closed shop. I do remember him trying to short TSLA all the up from the IPO to 2021 bubble top. I think he didn't realize shorting the only company making EVs was a bad idea. Its like trying to short NVDA or LLY -- they are essentially monopolies. PayPal was like that as well when it was the only real payment processor for much of the web.
Going long or short is all about timing it right, or having the necessary funds to wait it out if you don't time it quite exactly right.
