rumor has it is a nuclear powered cruise missile gone haywire

I asked Mr Putin, and he very strongly assured me the radiation is very fine... on both sides

The explosion happened offshore of the Nenoksa Missile Test Site, which sits on the White Sea, and local officials reported a spike in radiation after the event. Late Sunday night, Russian officials confirmed that the explosion involved a small nuclear reactor. On Monday, the New York Times reported that United States intelligence officials suspect that the explosion was the result of a failed test of Russia’s SSC-X-9 Skyfall, a nuclear-powered cruise missile still in development.

Russia says radiation spiked 4 to 16 times above normal after suspected missile explosion
The news comes amid conflicting reports that authorities were preparing to evacuate a village close to the Arctic test site where the blast occurred and that doctors who had treated engineers injured in the blast had signed non-disclosure agreements.

Roshydromet, a state weather monitoring body, said Tuesday its sensors in a city near the Nenoksa Missile Test Site on Russia's northern Arctic coast had picked up a spike in background radiation levels four to 16 times above the norm immediately after the blast on Friday when what officials have confirmed was a nuclear-powered missile engine exploded on a floating launch pad. The spike lasted about an hour and half, before levels returned to normal, the agency said.

  3. Considering the age and decay of their system, ours and everyone else's, I'm surprised a nuke hasn't been launched by accident long before this. It's only a matter of time.

Here is the scary reality. Should the President issue nuclear strike, there are plenty of Missiles that can only be launched with 5 1/4 floppy disk, not even 3 1/2. This should scare anyone

From the Russian side of things, so much of their arsenal is in poor shape that it would be a real risk to their own country to launch the missiles without a major mishap.
