So you don't know, and you lied and said you did. Point noted for future debates with you - you're open to lying if it suits you. The point is not whether guns that are illegally owned are just as fatal as legally owned guns. We all know they are. The point is that if the guns are illegally owned, then you still have no idea how to solve the problem, as a gun ban of any sorts would not capture weapons illegally acquired. This means you just rant and shout at the rain, without any solution. If that's all you want to do, simply state it and we can settle this issue once and for all. Otherwise, please offer how you would get rid of illegally owned firearms.
But this was probably a legally owned gun like many if not most of the guns involved in non-gang, non thug violence. In other words, most of the most tragic deaths from guns - like the Sand Hook killings - are from legally owned guns. Your legal/illegal obsession is beside the point.

If gun legislation of any kind could remove illegal weapons which make up the vast number of murders out there, then please state what that legislation would be. Let's take a hypothetical act of gang violence whereby a 9 year old girl in southern Chicago gets shot tragically and dies from a head wound from a thug that obtained a firearm illegally (stole it). How would you prevent future such killings? What would you legislate if you were President or a Senator?

(AP) — A homeless man who was shot and killed by officers at a busy intersection had thrown multiple rocks, hitting two officers, and had refused to put down other stones, authorities said Wednesday. Officers used a stun gun on the man, but it had no effect, Pasco Police Chief Bob Metzger said at a news conference. Because of his "threatening" behavior, officers fired their guns, he said.
