I am suspicious of polls showing widespread support for various gun control measures. I can get high positives for a question about "closing the gun show loophole." Rephrase it to ask if family members should be required to get government approval to transfer a firearm to a relative and you get a far different result. The strategy of compromising on unpopular items is a terrible one for gun rights defenders. It just gets liberals another step down the slippery slope to their real goal, confiscation.
"The gun-rights movement continues to see background-checks through the same paranoid prism it sees everything else: the threat of door-to-door gun confiscation."
They post an endless number of stories about people getting killed in accidents who've bought their guns legally and then suggest they only want to stop the underground transfer of guns.
Only 26% of Americans favor a handgun ban. I've found that most pro gun control loons have little or no factual knowledge of the current 22,000 federal state and local firearms laws. Or firearms in general for that matter. Their entire opposition to the 2nd amendment is based on misinformation lies rhetoric and emotion.
Oh no, more of those scary assault rifles that cause pussy progressives to uncontrollably piss their pink panties.
