  1. the emini nasdaq NQ is a great future to trade...great volume and volatility and "okay spread of .25...please add your insights on why and how you trade it...can't find much comments on the NQ here at EliteTrader...please share your insight...I've noted this below in another forum...I wrote about 13 minutes ago...

    Hey all,
WOW!...look at this...the least risky emini to trade is the...)drum roll please  )...the NQ emini Nasdaq...let me explain...I am basing this off the ATR average true range per day and potential loss of 1 contract traded per day...
    Okay here we go:

MOST RISKY: ER2...ATR is 10.67 and (greatest)loss would be $1,067

VERY RISKY: ES...ATR is 11.63 and (greatest) loss would be $581.50

RISKY: YM...ATR is 98 and (greatest) loss would be $490.00

LEAST RISKY: NQ...ATR is 21.39 and (greatest) loss would be $427.80

...we'll very interesting...what do you think?....very surprising...yes, very surprising...I would really take this to heart as you are beginning to trade emini's...of course this is my opinion...what do all of you think???

by your logic, the NQ is the ....drumroll please... least profitable contract to trade!

  3. no, good to practice on and add more contracts...a lot of "newbies" need a less intimidating contact to trade...this is it by my thinking...just my opinion...thanks!!

  4. For daytrading, NQ has less chop/better trends than ES. NQ has significantly less volume than ES (probably because of fewer auto-trading "bots"). Fewer bots = better trends, it would appear.

When I want to trade trend in a daytrade, I go with NQ. When I want to trade support-resistance, I go with ES.

2 NQ for 1 ES. More commissions for size, unfortunately.

During slow volume periods, however, NQ can act lilke ES usually does. During high volume periods, NQ has little back and fill and is a joy to trade (moved like a rocket today).

  5. thanks Sir!

If you're talking about daytrading, don't look at ATR, as it includes overnight moves. Also, don't look at sessions where you're not likely to be trading.

Construct custom bars from 9:30-4:15 and use those.
