  2. 70 people!!!!!! Ohhh my God. Lets all freak out. Nobody go outside. Seal yourself in. Its over. The end is finally here. Those are pretty startling numbers indeed.

Of course they dont bother to tell you that there are 36,000 flu deaths in the US every year. That leads to almost 100 flu deaths in the US every single day. So why the hysteria over 70 deaths?

Lets get to the bottom of this. This is about the WHO justifying their existance. They need to trump up a scare every once in awhile to secure funding. Lets see. In 2003 we had SARS. In 2005/2006 it was the big bird flu scare. Now right on schedule, for this scare in 2009.

Any time a disease makes the transition from amimal to human... and then human to human, it's something to take notice... as it's new to humans and there's no natural defense in place. Here in the US we have all the antibiotics, but that wont mean much if it goes wild so, identification and clampdown control is the first order of business. In other parts of the world it could be potentially much worse.

If just one person dies it's nothing to joke at... you seriously need to examine your emotional state and check if you actually have a pulse. If one of those 70 would have been someone close to you, I doubt you would be posting this crap.

My err, that is correct. But they do have use if the patient develops pneumonia. My original though was that the US has an established medical network in place, and is in much better position to handle a pandemic outbreak, compared to some other countries.

Should have said antiviral or basically any drug or medical help needed.

    Thanks for the correction

  7. Who made any joke that someone died? I made a joke about the fruitcakes like you who are running pushing the hysteria. The point is, as noted in my post that almost 100 a day die of flu every single day, in the US alone. So why panic that 70 people died? Why is the WHO doing this? TO GET MONEY. So they will push the hysteria to achieve their goal.

If we use the numbers from the US and assume that the numbers hold up worldwide this would lead to an anual worldwide death rate of about 814,00 a year from the flu. The US has the best healthcare in the world so that is probably a pretty conservative estimate because some people who survive the flu in the US might actually die if they get treated in a shitty hospital in some other country.

The whole point is that if there is going to be some sort of disease that comes and kills a whole bunch of people, there is nothing we are going to do about it. Bottomline. Some jerk-offs from the UN ain't going to stop it, no matter how much money we give them.

  8. You are displaying PROFOUND ignorance. This is an usual strain with potentially unknown consequences. I want them to track it immediately and be ready for "WAR" if necessary. I once watched a PBS show where it said if you take regular flu virus and change like 1 gene (or 1 part) it would transform into 1918 Spanish Flu.

    I don't want a repeat of 1918.

  9. I was not trying to be an a-hole with my post I just tried to spare you from serious flames by some of the more insidious characters on ET.

I wish antibiotics would kill viruses. Imagine a world without AIDS, Herpes, etc.

  10. ,

The hype at this point is overblown. Like I said there are on average almost 100 deaths a day in the US from flu. From my conservative estimate that breaks down to about 2225 people a day worldwide. Since at this point only 70 people died from swine flu they are overhyping it. As we speak, the WHO, is contacting governments from around the world, shaking 'em down for some cash. Washington, DC was the first place they called. You can count on it. When a branch of the UN comes out with something like this, it is best to be very suspicious. I think you display PROFOUND ignorance by thinking that the WHO wouldn't use such hysteria for a money grab.

I am not saying that this wont or couldn't develop into something huge, but at this point the hype is over-blown. If it grows to something big there is nothing we can do about it anyway. There have already been cases in NYC. Since its in NYC, it is completely uncontainable. NYC is such an international city then there are carriers worldwide at this point. If the swine flu wants to kill millions, then it will. Some American doctor not associated with the WHO will come up with a cure or a treatment and then that will be that.
