He is separating the issue. He is just saying honoring the flag during the anthem is something that citizens should agree with regardless of your grievance. Its an opinion that's all it is, he shouldn't be vilified for it.
By the way kaepernick is the fool that decided to make a spectacle of himself when the nfl gave him a chance to workout for a potential team. He exposed himself as a clown.
Drew got schooled today. Timing is everything, and on this day you cannot say anything that even remotely resembles implying anything good about this country. America is bad, evil, the whole damn place, everyone, that is all which you are permitted to speak. His apology now has the appropriate tone, especially the, "I must do more listening, and less talking". That's a good white boy, now go sit in the coroner and they'll let you know what to think and when to think it.
I do agree that as a person in the public eye and the nature of your job and politics of sports you do need to be a little smarter. Its not about giving up your values its just being pragmatic. You have to pick your battles.
You do see how this narrative of all white people are racist works. Drew Brees was not even being asked about the current protests or surrounding events, yet his words were twisted up to suit the narrative, and he is the perfect guy for them to use. Drew Brees, nice guy, good man, well respected by one and all, including his fellow black players. If even he, certainly a better man than you, can be a no good racist fuck, then you certainly are. This mantra will be repeated in one fashion or another until all comply. America is evil and you white people, every last god damn one of you are racists. You white people. no matter how meager your life or materials may be, you are guilty of white privilege and oppression of blacks. Ironically, this will be preached to you by highly successful black men living in mansions while wearing five thousand dollar suits. And your government, our government, will stand by and watch as you receive your due punishment.
No.He could take the position of Tom Brady,Arron Rodgers etc. They don't kneel but don't criticize or try to shame those who do which is what Brees was doing.
Just wondering since Brady is friends with Trump and every black athlete believes trump is a racist does that make Brady racist?
With respect to Drew Brees.. 1 why make those comments now unless he had an agenda. No one was asking is opinion on kneeling for the flag during the anthem and no one was making a case for it or even discussing since sports are not even scheduled to start for a few months. 2. Drew Brees did not express is opinion on why he would not kneel for the anthem, he went after those that did at this specific time and that does not make sense at all. No one is asking him to kneel for the anthem or do something he feels uncomfortable doing. Maybe 20 NFL players kneeled out of 1500 NFL players..is it really an isssue he had to go on line right now and address? 3. He is a leader of his team. Being a leader often entails knowing when to speak and when to listen. His teammates are hurting and dealing with an issue. All he had to do was just listen. Sorry but if you are a leader you do not get this unended freedom to say whatever you want and ignore those you lead. It was poor timing and achieved nothing for him to say it and the negatives outweighed the positives. From this day on many teammates will not have his back just like teammates backed away from Collin. 4. Collin expressed an opinion and an action. he was punished for it due to backlash from many who disagreed with his method. Drew expressed his opinion right now at the wrong time and he should be man enough to take the backlash. 5. Drew is not a pussy so he does not need your defense. His teammates have the final say and they will do what they feel is right but do not be surprised that he will be shunned the way Colin was.
