Totally disagree with this statement happiness usually requires money or taking things. I'm not a rich man but am very happy and I don't need to take things to make me that way

  2. semantics
what is your definiton of happiness
what is your definition of joy?
I'm happier than a pig in shit
But it aint going to last for long
I'll be dead soon but yes, the happiness along the way was nice

Joy usually involves giving something, try it sometime, you may find you like it even better than happiness.

ETcallhome. It ain't the destination that none of us will ever avoid.
It's the journey over which each of us has some control.Ninety next month and
still able to walk and talk and hopefully able to make some sense.Heypa.

  4. well, if you can walk and make sense you got me beat
    although I still can talk

what I meant was, happiness comes and goes, and once you are happy nothing can ever make you more happy, it's just more of the same

joy is a different matter. I don't really feel joy, but when I create it I know that something good has happened. And like I said, creating joy usually involves giving.

  5. Escuse me, may I ask :
"why do you say 'I''be dead soon?' : do you have a illness?
How long do you think you have to live?

  6. guess it depends on your definfinition of "soon". When I was born the actuarial tables gave a white male till about age 76. I don't care how old you are, that's pretty soon. Even if you live to 120 years of age, that's pretty soon. We all have an illness. It's called mortality.

I don't believe you can take happiness with you
But Joy lasts long after you are dead and gone

  7. well: those who I have heard say they'll be dead soon, often died within few months ( terminal cancer, fatal accidents,...). This is why I asked.
Now effectively, time is limited in this life phase , and we have one certitude: one day, each person will die. Then after - from religious people who have assisted to people's deaths, and then atheists scientists who turn religious from their job experiences of talking to those who are dying- we will have a face to face regarding our "Book of Life".
Now about happiness and joy. Most define happiness, from what they learn from the media: aka material and physical gratifications, thus the research for more physically stimulating experiences to cover the "emotional toxins" in the person, with extremes like exagerated indulgence. I have noticed that many people after some serious mediations retreats are happier or have more joy: it seems like they have removed a lot of "emotional toxins".

  8. yes, meditation is the easiest thing in the world. All you have to do is sit and do nothing. Many busy people wish that just someday they could sit and do nothing. But it doesn't come easy. I think meditation is like investing. It works a lot better if you start early. I can tell you from me, meditating was a heck of a lot easier when I was young, and then when I had a wife, and a kids and a job it became very difficult. How can sitting doing nothing be difficult? But I can tell you, just like investing, if you do it regularly and often it can change your life for the better.

  9. One can take regular meditation retreats : I am myself sending in there all the family members in 2016.
And these retreats of 10 days do work. The meditation retreats can be Religious one or other "secular" one.
But these meditations techniques seem to all have originated from religion.

  10. or religion resulted from meditation
    I hope not
    I like meditation
I have no stomache for religion
