Some, including some in NASA, are comparing the current sunspot activity to that of the Maunder Minimum, which correlates with the mini ice age during the 16th century (I think 16th but I don't feel like googling it right now). If we are entering such a period, we will soon know if man made warming is a factor or not regarding overall warming or cooling (we were causing cooling back in the 60's and 70's according to the propaganda films we were forced to watch in school back then).
