well it is up to you weather u want to use the free edition or pay. the full fledge version of the grisoft is 33$.

I have both loaded ( norton and grisoft's AVG), the AVG has caught some virus where the norton did not do any thing.

Well in this era of materialism nothing is free, even the s*it you make , u have to pay .

  3. Norton 2004 products have tons of issues. Norton Internet Security has a ton of problems with streaming data for example.

Ran into problems upgrading where after the upgrade, the NAV and NIS would not let me do anything because I was not logged in as an administrative account, but there was no place to do that!!! The only way to fix the problem (known problem in their knowledge base) is to uninstall and reinstall. Well, regular uninstall will not work because I am not logged into Norton with their administrative account -catch 22..... Had to download a utility from their site to uninstall.

Anyway, assuming you have the install disk for it that came with the computer, what you want to do is uninstall ALL Symantec software. When asked to reboot, do it every time (you will be doing a bunch of reboots), then remove the 2 sets of registry settings:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Symantec

    and
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec

    and remove the program files:
    C:\Program Files\Symantec

Also look for other Norton folders under C:\Program Files such as:
    C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus

    and
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shares

Once that is done, you should be able to re-install the software and the license will be good for a year or whatever period it was good for originally and you will be able to do the LiveUpdate to get updates.

i bought 2004 norton systemworks and even i uncheck everything i can possibly uncheck and remove it from startup-it still scanning for viruses like every week. totally by itself, without any permission from me. even after i stopped all services related to symatec it still does same s**t. few times symatec windows doctor or whatever it calls totally screw up my computer so comp not even boot up..maybe it's a leader, but not in my eyes..
they just selling same s**t like they do 10 years ago.

i think-it's you are miss you point,.. not everyone is tiger woods or koby bryant here. lot of good software around and sometimes it better and less annoying than your personal leader. plenty of smart boys around, who want piece of norton pie. and they do offer sometimes better and less expensive products. Jerry's Quotetracker is perfect example in trading field.

i still believe that best way to keep you computer secure-keep it separate from rest on you network and use it for trading purposes only.

  6. People who use software firewalls are pikers.

All you need is robust hardware firewall, again a quality product with firmware upgrades from a serious manufacturer----not the nickle and dime piker special, and professional level anti-virus.

    The rest is fluff.

    Freakin amateurs.

I suppose yall loozers change your own oil and spark plugs to save a buck or two.

    Coupon clipper mentality. Sheesh!

  8. I don't baffle Microsoft contrary to the huge majority that just follow the fashion by medias only because Microsoft is the leader, but I do baffle Norton, leader or not I don't care, because in the past it has been proved by a software mag (very long ago in 1996 or so) that they announced an antivirus whereas the virus didn't even exist but appeared only much more later. In fact more and more virus experts suspect antivirus makers to fabricate some virus which are rather logical from business point of view...

Also there are a lot of noise about virus whereas, but it is not virus that are so much spreaded, except perhaps if you visit porn or marketing sites and leave your email then you are spammed with virus :D. Most danger today come from trojans that are very easily downloaded, I remind that with some versions of IE there is even no need to click on a mail for that.

Then, and it's finally logical, the new trend is now a virus that mutates into a trojan. How is it that the antivirus softwares continue to ignore trojans and make non-specialist people think they are protected by installing an antivirus ?
