Northern Rock Is Finished

  1. Looks like all the "Sirs" and "Lords" of the British aristocracy running these UK companies don't do any better than their mortal counterparts in other countries :p

It's about a trend practise, otherwise it's a layer cake with herd mentality, Lord or no Lord.

  3. Whats a bit more surprising is that AL.L and BB.L have not followed suit. BB.L under its various mortgage broker guises has about 15% of the Joe Six Pack speculative buy-to-lets market BB-. Having said that am sure glad to be holding onto my shorts, only thing that l do not understand is that majority of retail traders are actually buying !! This stock is so short sold that most funds are willing to be fined by the exchange than let go of the trade.:D My guess is NRK.L hits £0.05 then delisting. One of the best trades l have ever had......anyone old enough to remember Lucent Technologies :D

For what it is worth Nick Leeson was actually a plasterer/tradesman before becoming their head trader so I don't know where this aristocracy thing comes from. I don't think the head of Northern Rock was royalty either.

  5. He's talking about the guys running Barings not Leeson, and they definitly were gentry twats... NR was the result of a merger or two of smaller banks with a couple of aristos leading the whole thing (i think...)

  6. The Bank of England has as much influence on the world as the Central bank of kazakhstan

  7. LOL, classic conversation from the film "Rogue Trader":

"- He doesn't do things by the book, Ron.
He just doesn't respect the rules. ls he really the kind of person we should be employing at Barings?

    - Oh, fuck the rules. lt's barrow boys like
Nick who are turning the City around.
You can't run a modern financial centre
with a bunch of Hooray Henries."

  8. I thought Ron was an Aussie?

  9. Very, very true. Hooray Henries with young busty Penny in tow are just not cut out for this. You need tongue in cheek Essex boys and a couple of Old hands to keep things under control. Doing things by the rules and following status quo is what often brings trouble. Go stand outside Moorgate Station or Cannon Street and the characters are identical, whether Black, White or Indian.Sloanes and Hooray types are better suited to selling relics in Mayfair galleries.
