Conspiracy theorists believe that any evidence debunking the conspiracy is part of the plot and is therefore proof of the conspiracy. There is no reasoning with such people. Reason is a foreign language they simply cannot understand. It is best to ignore them; without the attention, they'll go away.

With the potential for viral dissemination of information, putting as much of this stuff out there as possible is a good strategy for the Republicans. One never knows who's going to read what, who's going to start investigating what, etc. Something doesn't need to be true to influence the race. Look at the Palin situation re: her views on forcing raped teenagers to carry to term pregnancies which resulted from those rapes. This is what she personally believes in, but again, there is no evidence that she has ever tried to push legislation that would compel others to act according to her (admittedly bizarre, at least in this) morality.
