How about families with a wife who is pregnant. Should you not be allowed to change jobs because the insurance in your new job will not cover the pre-existing condition (this happened to me in the past)? Should you not be allowed to leave your job and go independent if your wife is pregnant because the ACA individual policies will not cover your family?
You do know there are 7 billion people in the world, so a lot of wifes are getting pregnant everyday. Not sure why you need insurance to cover something that use to be inevitable. Two of my grandkids were born very premature and the bill would have wiped out the parents. But that is not normal. You should be able to pay for a normal birth out of your own pocket. If it is an abnormal birth we will gladly pay, you have enough problems and it is no big deal for us. all my children were born at home with a midwife and a doctor.
It was a disaster by design. If you can wait till you get sick before you purchase insurance, then it is not insurance, it is welfare. Remember the original plan had the public option. The plan was to destroy the private insurers and replace them completely with the public option. They had to get rid of the public option which complicated things for the left, but they have in no way abandoned their goal.
Most states no longer support midwives and require women to give birth in a hospital (i.e. accredited facility). The current average bill for a normal birth is over $25,000. This amount would wipe out most families to pay out of pocket.

That is more the result of tying health insurance to employment. It is a crazy system that creates all sorts of secondary problems.
