Nikkei USD Futures Settlement

  1. I have been trading for a long time, but I can't figure this out. As many know, I am long, but have been scaling back. I let my long positions in Nikkei futures expire -- and the settlement was good for me but I can't figure it out.

Both Yen and Dollar demoninated settled at 10541.92

The high was 10522.23 for the settlement day.

I know it settles at a special opening quotation etc. which means that the snapshots are not all at the same time, but the index went down straight at the open. Hard for me to imagine how individual stocks can be manipulated so that the settlement is above the high of the index while the index is selling off at the open...
