Attack is stopped by accident. Somebody bought a domainname, and when this domain became activ the virus stopped spreading. For each attack the virus went to check for the domain. As long as the domain was not active it continued to spread. It was a built in stop for the hacker.
This is a good read about how it was stopped. Reported to of made £32,000 to date from the hack. https://www.malwaretech.com/2017/05/how-to-accidentally-stop-a-global-cyber-attacks.html
