1. Wow. I have never perceived him to be the threat you deem him to be.

Definitely food for thought. Thanks for the full-course meal.

2. giuliani a threat, yeah, to criminals he is...
"In 1983, Rudy became United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where he spearheaded successful efforts against organized crime, white collar criminals, drug dealers and corrupt elected officials. Some of his best known cases include the groundbreaking mafia prosecutions in the "Pizza Connection" and "The Commission" cases, Wall Street corruption cases including Ivan Boesky, and the convictions of corrupt political figures such as Congressman Mario Biaggi and political boss Stanley Friedman. Few U.S. Attorneys in history can match his record of 4,152 convictions with only 25 reversals. "

hardly a bad thing... def. not the worse guy around if it has to be a rep.

if a dem., this chap seems pretty good:

3. For once, we agree.

I give Rudy credit for straightening out the mess that was NYC, but he seems to have very poor judgment. His personal life became a distraction and wouldn't play very well in a presidential campaign. Also, his police commisioner, the thuggish Bernie Kercik(spelling?), had to back out of the hOmeland Security job when all kinds of wierd stuff started coming out about him. Apparently mob guys were doing construction work gratis for him.

I also agree with RM's comments about Rudy's fascist tendencies. He started a program in NYC to seize the cars of drunk drivers. Very unfair in my opinion and constitutionally dubious. We have enough problems with asset forfeiture abuses. We certainly don't need a president who thinks they are a cute way to get headlines and punish people without trial.

Basically with Rudy I see a guy who, like Clinton, thinks there should be one set of laws for the great unwashed and another for him and his cronies.

Rudy is also way too liberal for republican primary voters. He is pro gay and pro abortion. His best bet is to run for the Senate from NY.

5. Pabst

Pabst

Obama's a hack with a pedigree. Jeez, how many Ivy League guys have run for President in the past few cycles. Quite a few. And they ALL have shit for brains.

Obama's VERY liberal and socialist leaning. His landslide win in Illinois was one of perhaps 8 reasons why I changed my legal rez to Florida......

7. zzzz... tone it down for a sec ok... everyone's entitled to an opinion, even u (just kidding ok?)

pabst... the US is a 'socialist' country right now, re-read my previous post, unless u guys do a 'russian' and give the T-bonds etc holders the finger, public debt = taxes = massive redistribution, ok... am not saying its a good or a bad thing... personally i think ppl are better off with a 'sensible' mixed economy... the problem is, whats 'sensible'?

anyway, just to say, at this juncture, its not about that... what its really about imo is leadership, pure and simple, as it shld always be...

why do i even fucking care?? cause guess what, we're all americans at heart, may or may not live there, but may some day, or never... who cares...

so now what d'u want, wanna watch america going down, pulled down by its own sons, breakdown of democracy etc, or wanna believe in sthg better? i mean, the ingredients are there, they've always been... the energy, the drive, the spirit... just fucking get it together guys, will ya?????

9. I don't think he was a junkie at all. Where'd you get that from?

_________
Obama: ""I had learned not to care," he wrote. "I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years. Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though. ..."

"Blow" is a street name for cocaine. "Smack" is slang for heroin.

"Junkie. Pothead. That's where I'd been headed: the final, fatal role of the young would-be black man," Obama wrote. "Except the highs hadn't been about that, me trying to prove what a down brother I was. Not by then, anyway. I got high for just the opposite effect, something that could push questions of who I was out of my mind, something that could flatten out the landscape of my heart, blur the edges of my memory. I had discovered that it didn't make any difference whether you smoked reefer in the white classmate's sparkling new van, or in the dorm room of some brother you'd met down at the gym, or on the beach with a couple of Hawaiian kids who had dropped out of school and now spent most of their time looking for an excuse to brawl. ... You might just be bored, or alone. Everybody was welcome into the club of disaffection."

Obama Fights to Save Meth Task Force Funding

WASHINGTON - Legislation supported by U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) to restore funding that police officers say is crucial to fighting methamphetamine use was accepted as part of the 2007 budget. The 2007 budget is expected to pass the full Senate later this week.

Obama joined Senators Mark Dayton (D-MN) and Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) in offering an amendment to the budget that would restore funding for Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants to $900 million. The President has proposed eliminating Byrne grant funding in the 2007 budget.

Byrne grants provide funding to state and local law enforcement officials to hire more drug enforcement officers. In 2003, Congress provided $900 million for Byrne grants and more meth labs were seized in Illinois than in any other year.

"It's one thing to cut a program that's wasteful or doesn't work," said Obama. "But Byrne Grants have made a real difference. For State Police, they pay the salaries for the officers who patrol our streets. In smaller towns with limited resources, the staff provided by these grants partners with local task forces and serves as the town's only chance to fight rising drug use and violence. In southern Illinois, Byrne grants have made a huge difference for law enforcement trying to fight the surging methamphetamine epidemic. In 2004 alone, Byrne grants have helped Illinois cops make over 1,200 meth-related arrests and seize nearly 350,000 grams of meth."
