Yes, they should have done more homework first. But I would argue that there is no evidence in a case like this. The credibility of the accused is very well established on this topic, and it is well within his pattern of behavior. Given what has already been verified about him, this isn't even shocking. It would be shocking and require more proof if we were talking about Rick Santorum. What you are suggesting is that if something is done in private between two people, and there is no hard evidence like a third person or a recording, that the accuser doesn't have a right to be heard. You are correct in that the responsibility of the media includes investigation of both sides, and fair treatment. I disagree in that I think both sides are well known in this case.
My point was that Maverick et al only get philosophical when their side finds itself on the business end of the media.
Wait a minute. Are you saying she did not go on the record during her divorce hearing? And if not, why would she not tell this to the judge? Why would she leave this factual information out? And if it is on the record, can we please see that?
Do I see you taking the accusers, some of whom are your own political friendlies right here at ET, to task as you are doing here in defense of Gingrich?
Did YOU extend that courtesy when the media reported on Bush? And for the record, I have never supported any of the outrageous claims about Obama from the right wing media. So you don't have a leg to stand on here. Unless you care to provide a specific example.
Also, the responsibility of the media isn't to avoid presenting any story that isn't 100% supported by hard proof. Their responsibility is to weed out obvious falsehoods and provide all of the known facts in a fair manner. The courts take it from there. The major breakdown in this system isn't the media, it is the law stating that libel and slander does not apply to public figures. Newt should have the right to make his case, and sue the ex-wife if he feels it necessary.
In all fairness, their side is on the receiving end of the media nonsense, far more often than yours. That is common knowledge.
Yeah actually, you did see me do that.... Any more questions Einstien? Or is it time you admit that you have no clue what you are talking about?
