Good explanation. I agree that finding the right balance within a given budget is a better solution than spending too much on one "bleeding edge" component.
ya'lls eva notice that the nooby always does everything bigly ? 6k ? what, a $1500 computer with 4500 worth of gold coins in it ?
Just built this pre Xmas Ryzen 3700x 32 gig 3600 ram (slower specs) 500 meg M.2 drive 550 Watt ps corsair 1650 SUPER vid paid less than 900 after some rebates INCLUDING TAX You got robbed bro
64 GB RAM, 3x3 TB SSD + threadripper (32-core? 64-threads?) comes to at least $2K I think. But I didn't really look at the price, just went for the best in class. Look, I get it. You're poor. Great. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy buying stuff.
Does that list come to 2K? Fine, add top-of-line NVidia. OK, that probably comes to $6K. The point I seem to fail to make is I sometimes buy without being price sensitive, so I couldn't tell you what the prices were. All I know is I did a bunch of research and bought the best for my particular circumstances. Ever seen those videos of rich people who think the price of milk is $10? Sort of like that. All-in, the total bill was about $10K. But I can't be arsed to know exactly what the prices were for each component.
Just looked up the price for the graphics card, that alone was $2K. Threadripper was at least $2K if memory serves.
How do you like the M.2 drive? I cannot live without SSD anymore. One for Windows, one for Linux, one for data to share.
Maybe we should have a computer build throw-down? Everybody submit their best "bang for the buck" build.
Over time, keep your eye on the price and availability of the faster/more-cores CPUs that will run on that MB. Pick one up while they're available but newer product has resulted a price drop. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B450-F-GAMING/HelpDesk_CPU/ It's currently showing good up to Ryzen 9 3950X. Or pickup a used 3800X (etc.) when someone upgrades to a 3950X...
