Newbies listen ! My Story w/ lessons

  1. I agree with you 100%

however just like everything in life there are always a few exceptions.

My mentor is a small hedge found manager. The money I give him does not make such a big difference in his life, but he mentors me because he likes to teach/is bored/it's entertaining/makes no difference if I am there since I am not holding him back from doing anything and he is watching the market regardless, alone or with me sitting around.

I had "2 professional mentors" before him and although it helped survive the learning curve, my trading did not improve a lot. This guy is not a mentor and did not want to mentor, but is mentoring now.

I simply feel the same way, if I ever get to the point he is at now, I might just do it, if I feel like it, but certainly not as a full time job.

I just want to trade, not mentor anyone. If one is making money trading there is no reasons to do anything else but trading.

  2. How much do I charge? How much can you afford? Seriously, though, I want to avoid violating the forum policy regarding such matters. This is not the time or place to discuss such matters.

I'm sorry you take my remarks with such cynicism. I tried to answer responsively and honestly. How my remarks are interpreted says more about those who read it than it says about me.

  3. To traders needing mentoring: Why not give it a shot... maybe you'll be picked!

  5. You are the OP. Reread your post. You mentioned mentoring several times. In fact it seems a major theme of your initiation of this thread.

  6. Maybe if you had a good mentor you would write a different thread. According to what you wrote it sounds as if for your psycology, to be right it is more important than to make money.

Another thing you might want to consider is to trade in a systematic way and not with a discretionary approach. Avoid daytrading at all costs. You also should have an edge. If you don't have an edge you are a gambler.

Last but not least you need a capitalized account think 30k - 50 k or more and...it should be money you can afford to lose. If you do not have money do not trade. Period.

I did and I am still doing what I suggested above. There is more to trading, but the things written above although they are not sufficent conditions to win they are all necerssary conditions. I have been trading for 5 years full time and plan to trade many more years.

    Good Luck.

  7. Didn't get a single pm for mentoring and it's a shame because I'm probably one of the very few traders in here that can prove profitability AND consistency.

  8. I'm not surprised. Forums have never been a viable source for students for me either.
