Newbie question on Coal Futures

Discussion in 'Commodity Futures' started by white_zombie, Jun 14, 2007.

  1. Hi,

NYMEX Coal Futures(QL) seems to trend pretty well but is not offered for trading by most futures brokers(IB, xpresstrade), any reason why ? I checked the open interest at NYMEX, there a 200-300 every expiry month, not too bad for buying single digit contracts. Are there any issues with buying Coal Futures ?

Do you know any futures brokers who allow trading in Coal Futures ?

    Thanks!

It's a Clearport product that trades OTC. You can't just go buy or sell it like a regulated future, you need to use a voice broker to find a counterparty to take the other side of the trade. Coal is not a spec heavy commodity, it is used primarily by commercials for hedging.
