  1. How on earth can I go about designing an ATS? I know nothing of coding except macros in Excel. I have what looks to be a very solid system designed based on backtesting. Any guidance on where to learn, what programs to use, which broker to use, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

  2. There are many routes you can go down. NinjaTrader (a program you lease and use with the broker of your choice ) and TradeStation (both software and broker) allow ATSes to be built, tested and run.

If you really want to get your hands dirty, Interactive Brokers TWS product has an API. I would not recommend anyone with no programming experience use this though.

  3. To learn how to program using interactive brokers API i would recommend:

if you want a system already mostly developed I would recommend Jsystemtrader.. you still need some programing experience to use it.. but its something a non programmer can easily pick up quickly.. link for jsystemtrader is:

    http://code.google.com/p/jsystemtrader/

Or you can always use a system you have to pay for.. there are several that work with IB out there
