There is a possibility that this "fine" will be reduced to 1 dollar on appeal. I am hopeful though that the entire ruling be reversed. I expect that to happen in the fullness of time.
Trump pays out in another civil suit that he lost. Trump pays $392k in legal fees to New York Times after failed lawsuit over disclosure of his tax documents https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/26/media/legal-fees-new-york-times-donald-trump/index.html
"We're going to win so much you may even get tired of winning." Who knew he meant Plaintiffs winning ... verdicts against him.
Next up is the non-crime that Alvin Bragg and Letitia James have cooked up regarding a clerical error on Stormy Daniels's NDA payment. This is an extremely flimsy case but if it makes it to jury, Trump will be convicted. Then the appeal process will begin on that one. It will eventually be overturned as well.
As i recall, not that I paid attention to these things... is there not a cruel and unusual punishment clause in the Constitution? All things considered in this case, I gotta think that applies. And bear with me here.... and I'm no lawyer (unfortunately, because I'd be a damn good one)... but if it's in the Constitution, does that not make Trump's appeal a Federal case? I mean... wtf... why not fine him $800M? $1.2B? It seems to me a line should be drawn somewhere right? Inquiring minds want to know.
As I have mentioned before, the text of the 8th amendment is-- Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
