Burgers: a really good place is the shake shack in Madison Square park... Danny Meyer has the beef delivered from the same butcher that supplies some of the best steakhouses in NYC.... and it costs only $ 6 or so...on the other extreme, there is DB Bistro, with a $40 burger that is actually worth it (with foie gras, brisket etc... unbelieveable).

New York had tons more character before Guliani tried to turn it into Mayberry. ..you know, when you could find Charles Bronson around, and Times Square was filled with the aroma of pole grease.
