  3. This is not accurate. Name one fund who donated $$ to get early access to someone from a "trading" course of study------Why do you say things like this??

Name one person who came out of a "trading" program at school and went on to great things in the business. Early access to brains potentially, but certainly not from trading programs-- the last thing a hedge fund would want is a "hive mind" from a university trading program--- math, physics, or whatever else that has high barriers to entry (mentally) yes, but certainly not from a trading program. surf

  4. Agreed. Eg http://www.ahl.com/ahl-oxford isn't to get people from a 'trading program', it's to get Masters or Phds in econ/stats. I think there is an analogy here with technology jobs. Top firms want to hire people who have done Maths or Physics, to develop software, not someone who has done a more 'vocational' qualification like software enginering.

You will be okay if you've done computer science at oxbridge (or US equivalent like MIT) which includes a big chunk of maths and theory but not if you've done software engineering at Greenwich (which for US readers is a 3rd or 4th tier UK university). There isn't really a general trading equivalent of computer science; financial econometrics at LSE or Oxford perhaps comes closest but these still aren't much to do with trading.

  5. I don't know one firm that would-- other than for "sales and marketing". nothing wrong with this--- just expectations need to be managed for students entering these new programs.
