i'm amazed that i can always build a new cheaper than i can buy, why is this? big companies like Dell etc buy parts in bulk with huge discounts, but I can build cheaper??? And I can build them with parts that I RECOGNIZE!
what kind of trading you are referring to? Option trading? -- A 5 yrs old computer would do. Stock swing trading? -- A 3 yrs old computer would do. Stock/Futures daytrading with multi-screens? --- If you don't know what you are getting, go get the most expensive computer you can afford to buy. The computers are so cheap these days (compared with 10~15yrs ago) you should have no problem buying a good one. If you can't afford a decent one, then daytrading is NOT for you. ;-)
This thread is interesting and gives a lot of information. Honestly never realized that buying a new PC is so much a headache! If I were to buy a PC for Trading, what should be the hardware and the software specifications?
basically you buy as much proc and memory for the buck as you wish to spend. after this specific recommendations depend on what you want to do with it. what do you want it to do?
I just upgraded to a new Dell Vostro-400 destop computer on Win XP Pro with an Intel Duo-Core E6850 processor at 3.0 GHz., with a 1333 FSB from my 4.5 year old Dell Dimension 8300 ( Pentium 4 at 2.60 GHz. ) and guess what? My UPLOAD speed increased from 600 kbps to 3,000 kbps! Unreal.
Do you have Comcast cable internet? They've been messing around with the speeds as they are getting ready to implement an upgrade next week. I've had download speeds > 20Mps, off and on.
Just bought a Dell Precision T7400 with 2 Quad Cores at 3.2 GHZ and 1600 FSB. Also 4GB of DDR2 SDRAM 800 MHZ RAID 0 with 2 SAS 15K Drives This machine is really fast and far beyond the last generation of Dual Xenon Processors. I you need the fastest, this is great. Only one week, but I am impressed. If can get by with less, certainly get one Quad core with the fastest BUS you can afford. Lower the CPU one level for savings.
Has anyone purchase a computer on ubid.com ?. It seems that some of the refrubished computers are a good deal
Yes, I forgot to mention that I upgraded to the "Blast" service - - - which everyone who has "Performance Plus" for $52.95 per month will be automatically switched over to for FREE starting Feb. 22nd. ( "Blast" is up to 16 MB's per second ). As long as you are still on the Comcast fiber-optic local network ( usually in State ) you can achieve speeds up to 24 MB on the download. Going across country is a totally different matter, however as one is subjected to the trunk lines of "other" carriers and the Internet Super Highway. I get 5.1 MB to the other side of the Country.
