The C2D E8400 based system (about midway down the page) may be quite similar in power usage terms to what you're planning to buy. http://www.complang.tuwien.ac.at/anton/computer-power-consumption.html
You can calculate power use here..... http://www.antec.outervision.com/ You might consider building your own. I just built a new machine with a 3.0 Core2Duo, Gigabyte MB, 320MB SATA HD, Artic Pro fan, 4GB of RAM all in a Antec 300 case with Antec EA650 PSU for $610
Can anybody give me their views on this set-up for a new trading rig. Anybody got any bad reviews on any of the parts listed? What price would you expect to pay for this set-up. I was quoted ââ¬3865 inclusive of VAT. Is the price FAIR? or OVER PRICED? I am living in Ireland. Any feed back from the tech guys here most welcome. Thank you for your time. For a trading rig... running XP, that price is a HUGE HOSE... is that 3865 Euro? All you need... 1. CPU, Core 2 Duo or Quad... E8400, Q6600 or better. 2. X38 mobo 3. 1 Nvidia Quadro NVS 290 video card, for 2 monitors up to 28". 2, NVS 290s for 4 monitors. 4. One hard drive is adequate, without consideration for backup routine. We would buy such a system in the USA for about $700. Suggest you check eBay for "Precision T3400" and see if someone will ship to Ireland. (I saw one there yesterday for $1095 that was set up for gaming. It's an OK price for the equipment included.) All you'd need to do to make it good for trading is to swap out the video cards... you could sell the 9800 GX2 in that rig for $200 maybe on eBay.) If you think you want to go the "T3400 on eBay route" and want some help understanding the hardware on the rigs offered there, let us know... many of us use T3400s.
Thx for the reply. That Price is in Euro's. At present I am using a Daul Core 6600 Dell Dimension 4G Ram. During a fast market the cpu would hit up to 80%. Ram usage aroung 800 less than 1G. I use NT and another third party software using e-Signal feed. The third party software does allot of tick based analysis so I want to get a top end machine where the CPU won't be hitting 80% during fast market. I don't use antivirus or any other software firewall etc just trading app. I have checked out dell here in ireland and their machines are above 2k aswell when I make a few adjustments to their base model prices. Any links you could provide for some new pc deals?
Running several tick charts can spike your CPU... if you can change those to 1 minute charts, the CPU usage should drop way down.
Build one by yourself: Case+PS: $150 MB: $100 CPU: $150 RAM: $100 HD: $100 Video: $100 DVD, and others: $100 LCD: $200 You get a complete, much powerful machine than the DELL. You can even save $200 if you shop smartly. See Newegg and TigerDirect.
Anybody here bought hardware from these guys quadstations.com I can't find much information here on elite about them.
