new monitor recommendations

  1. I wanted some advice on what to pair with a couple old dell ultrasharp 1901fp's (1280x1024) that still look great even after 6 yrs

i could run the 1901's either portrait or landscape in win7 and would look to stack 2 to make a quad setup of the 1901's and whatever new ones i purchase

    what size? 21, 23, 24, 27?

    resolutions? 1680x1050, 1920x1080, 1920x1200 etc

    aspect ratio? 16x9 16x10

was considering the dell ultrasharp line

    any opinions?

    thanks

    Here are my opinions:

    RE: what size? 21, 23, 24, 27?

23" is very nice. I have one 24" while many are 23" and 22". I think you will find 24 very close to 23. If want to save some money go with 23.

If you pick a 27", for viewing 1920 x 1080 resolution on a 27" is not that desirable IMO. It will be like watching a 52" plasma TV from 3 to 4 feet away. Big images but not enough details.

    RE: resolutions? 1680x1050, 1920x1080, 1920x1200 etc

Any monitor that is 21" or above, you will probably find the 1680x1050 resolution too coarse. 1920x1080 would be comfortable. But I don't think that extra 120 horizontal lines will be that big of a deal (1920x1200).

    RE: aspect ratio? 16x9 16x10

You will find most monitors with 16:9 ratio these days because they match with HDTV 1080p ratio ("Wide Screen").

    Bolimomo,

You should set up some kind of evening, or weekend business of custom building to spec trading systems, and selling them at a better price than Dell, or the expensive/overpriced Falcon computers.

    I'd buy one!:)

  4. Ha! That's a thought! :p Thanks for the vote of confidence LEAPup! But I don't want to deal with customer support, returns and warranties...
    :)

BTW: not sure if I can sell anything at a better price than Dell...

    Forget Ultrasharp u do not need. Get 24" (x2) 1920*1080 16*9

If you really want 4 mons -- go with 4 - 22''s else you will get ur spine injured turning left to right.

    I use a 30-inch HP, 2560 X 1600. Gorgeous for trading and everything else.

  9. get 27" from Viewsonic (@$350). They come with full 3y/w.
    or if $$ is tight - get hans G 27" - $250.
No matter what you get in what size, 4 monitors will make your eyes scream in 5 years. One monitor max 2 will work just as well. Ask those who have been doing it for a while (lescor, AustinP etc) what they are using to squeeze $$$. I doubt they are using more than 2. Learn from the ones who know.

If 4 monitors will "make your eyes scream in 5 years," what will 8 24's do?

I often wonder about that one too...
