That's sad to hear. The 'old' folks and the wisdom they bring is a big part of why ET is so good. It would be a shame if we lost them. Baron, is an alternative stylesheet out of the question?
Baron, You'll never be able to please all these self-important brats. Glad to see you're still in the saddle, man.
First off, I don't really think anyone one here is a brat. Some come to learn, some come to teach and some come to yank others chains, for the sake of keeping it alive. ET is Baron's "business" and the members are his "customers". In Baron changing things, it shows innovation and the need to progress on his side; that is indeed commendable. However, if a lot of "customers" are not pleased with it, it may not serve Baron's overall purpose. I'm slowly adapting to it, but I still think that the old version was better overall. Ideally, a few of the new features could have been added to the old version and that may have served almost everyone's purpose. Also, a pre-notice would have been nice, along with an explanation of the new features to be added. That may have caused a positive anticipation and may have led to a more acceptable intro to the new style. Regardless, Baron will make it right one way or another. He has made this into one of the biggest trading forums and that should speak for itself. Alpha.
You may not have an iPad or download many Apps. You may not use social services like Twitter, LinkedIn, or Facebook. You may not access sites with a variety of mobile devices. But guess what? Billions of other people on this planet are the EXACT OPPOSITE of you. Every time I look at our web site analytics, the story is always the same. Most people upgrade their operating systems when new versions come out. Most people have purchased computers with higher resolution monitors over the last 5 years. And most people now have a mobile device in their pocket that they check email, visit web sites with, and otherwise continue their digital life on when they are not at their desktop. 5 years ago, Windows OS usage was about 99% of our traffic. Today, it's only 69%. So 30% of our users are now accessing ET from an operating system that is NOT from Microsoft. That's a big shift in that short of a time period. And don't even get me started on the collapse of the IE web browser. Now I can sit around, reminisce about the good ol' days, and pretend like none of the above is actually happening. Yeah, I can just continue to run my site on outdated hardware and 11-year old software that is ate up with security holes and no longer supported. But guess what? I'm not going to do that. Because from a long-term perspective, it's not in the best interest of my users, and by users, I mean users from the past, today, and decades into the future. There's no doubt that some older users like yourself may not like the current site because you simply don't like change. However, I have a vision for where I want ET to eventually be, and if executing that vision causes me to lose some older users, then so be it. I hate to see anybody go, but I refuse to just sit on my hands from year-to-year as the world around us continues to evolve.
Not sure if this was mentioned already but it would be great to have the page navigation (1,2,3,4,... 58) on the top of the posts as well as the bottom (it's already @ the bottom but I don't see it @ the top). I like the new look & feel especially on the phone it's much better to read/browse, nice job !!
re:bob11 "Billions of other people on this planet are the EXACT OPPOSITE of you." now if most other traders are the opposite of him he will be a very successful trader. as long as the new version is readable on windows xp it receives a passing grade.
Wrong question. The right question is: What did you* give to ET? And the answer is: Content and pageviews. In plain English, WE made Baron a millionaire! *Not you personally, because in your case the answer would be, nothing.
