I would also reccomend looking at powernotebooks.com. They are fairly competitive price wise and are way above in service compared to Dell et al.
I'm a dell fan all the way. Make sure you get xp though because vista is a resource hog and still has kinks to be worked out.
I was looking at the notebooks @ canada computers but I ended up going with a custom built machine from http://www.eurocom.com/ I got a EUROCOM M57RU DIVINE-X, 2.5GHZ (45nm) 6GB cache processor, 2GB RAM, geforce 8700gt with 512MB, 17 1920x1200 glossy display, 200GB 7200rpm hdd, dvd burner, a/b/g/n wireless all for 2800CAD after taxes. It may not be the best price for the hardware, but it smokes almost everything on the system you spec'd for less $$... - mnx

I am very close to buying this computer BUT my only hesitation is the 256 MB Vram Graphics card vs. a 512 machine. How much of a difference do you think this will make? also Are Alienware computers worth the price ?
For Vista, the amount of VRAM probably makes a difference... For XP, it would make no difference. Alienware worth it? Only if you want to brag about how fast it is and how much your rig cost.
