Note that WHO has already stated that there are known cases of Omicron reinfection in South Africa. Hopefully Omicron will provide a few months of immunity for most people before they can be reinfected with it -- as per Fauci's statement. Omicron Reinfections Unlikely Over Several Months, Fauci Says https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...tions-unlikely-over-several-months-fauci-says
The WHO's statement was Omicron --> Omicron. Other studies indicate that having Delta provides nearly no natural immunity against Omicron. However at least one study shows having Omicron provides natural immunity against Delta. All of these scenarios involve no vaccination.
Omicron ‘sub-variant’ throws up new virus questions British health authorities have identified hundreds of cases of the Omicron variant dubbed BA.2. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/1/22/omicron-sub-variant-throws-up-new-virus-questions
I wonder if there's a typo in the article because once a mutation has been identified as a Variant of Concer (VOC)...all of its lineages (subvariants) received the exact same identification whereas the article implies that the subvariants do not. Also, lineages (subvariants) are the primary route for reinfections although rare. Last of all, as a reminder, the infamous 1918 Influenza Pandemic started in a similar fashion... In the beginning...it caused primarily mild infections although it only killed off a mere 2 million of the global population...mainly those with underlying medical conditions or immune-compromise. Then it mutated early in the Pandemic into something much more pathogenic...killing off quickly about another 48 million of the global population. If Omicron follows a horrible similar mutation route...those vaccinated and then boosted will be very happy they were vaccinated to avoid such a negative outcome. wrbtrader
Omicron subvariant appears more contagious, but not more severe, Denmark says https://www.reuters.com/world/europ...-contagious-than-ba1-denmark-says-2022-01-26/
Just to directly outline the reinfection percentages with Omicron. Two-thirds of the cases with Omicron are with people who were previously infected with another variant of Covid. This means that previous infection provides basically no protection against Omicron. And I will note that vaccination provides poor protection as well. Over 66 percent of Omicron cases are reinfections, study shows https://nypost.com/2022/01/26/over-66-percent-of-omicron-cases-are-reinfections-study/

It now appears the Omicron is the most infectious virus on the face of the earth... taking first place from measles.
