I worked in a cut and dry merit based industry. It worked for me. From your post history (only off topic on a trading forum) you seem to depend on handouts and are a victim of yourself.
It can be as simple a teacher/mentor who taught a person along the way, a friend who gave encouragement when you want to quit, maybe a banker who gave you a loan when no other bank would. Someone who took a chance investment of their time and/or money on your ideas and ambitions, an early on unpaid partner or employee who hung in when things were rough.
Obama's comment was that we all take advantage of government resources: from public schools, to public roads and infrastructure, to pure government subsidies. I can give an example of a hypocrite who has really benefited from this: Elon Musk. CaptainObvious i think was referring to other help like having supporting parents, access to education, a financial safety net, etc.
Internally, Wall Street appears cut and dry merit based. But the whole institution has survived on government bailouts and historically has been incredibly closed and elitist. networking is really important. A dolt from Dartmouth has an easier time breaking in than a genius from U Mass Dartmouth.
And no person ever taught you anything? You are self taught in every aspect? Never received a word of encouragement? Not a soul was patient with you? The not so obvious little things matter. All of our lives could be much, much worse if not for them. If an old working class prick like me can show some gratitude and humility, certainly a person of your status can.
The common degenerate gambler who hits the jackpot is more self made than a Wall Steet hack. Without taxpayer dollars the whole "free market" would collapse.
We pay for government services through taxes. If supportive parents, public education, etc was all it took to create a business then more people would do it. Where that's lacking are victimhood communities that become dependent on more handouts with a liquor store on every corner, a ministry/church between them, and a community activist. weather is getting warmer so more shootings. Warmer weather is caused by climate change. Climate change causes more shootings. At least we all agree on that
