I can't understand why the whitehouse would act like it did. Its not clear what would motivate Obama to order the military or CIA to stand down. Well, not clear to me anyway. Was it really done just to preserve the illusion that Libya was a peaceful and grateful country whose revolution we supported? Would Obama let people die over a *perception*? That notion is inconceivable. The communications traffic showed that the President received unambiguous reports of what was occurring so it isn't some misunderstanding of the situation. Obama knew immediately that the attack was not a protest and consisted of a coordinated event with multiple RPGs, mortar and automatic weapons being employed. Is it possible that he knew that the facility had a "safe room" and so he thought that the ambassador and other personnel would not be injured or killed? The terrorists used large amounts of diesel fuel to cause such a conflagration that the oxygen in the building was consumed and large amounts of smoke and vapors breached the safe-room. That would amount to a *serious mistake* and is something that a smart President could/would explain to the American people and come out of it ok. Instead the bullshit machine was switched on and Obama tried to buffalo the whole country. Is this guy going to go down over his inability to cop to a simple mistake?
glen beck's site speculated on this a week ago. or had a link to it. it will turn out that while holder was arming mexican drug gangs Obama was arming muslim terrorists with Sams... thinking they were with us at the time. So then Obama sends in a team or two on helicopters and obama's missiles shoot them down. that was the fear. the speculation went further... into treason after that.
Maybe they wanted Stevens to be captured?? Then, they could release that nut job and avoid the trial and make the Muslim Brotherhood happy. Nahhhh. They would never do that!!
I think you are right, jem. Panetta told Obama there could be a trap and rescuers could take heavy casualties. Obama figured that would sink his re-election and decided to do nothing that could be tied to him and then to cover up his involvement in that decision.
It just seems like it fits right in with the facts we know. Also, remember when Obama ordered the mission on Osama bin Laden he had an Admiral ready to take the blame if it went bad and still lamented over making the decision to go. Obama is always thinking about how it's going to effect him. Not what's the right thing to do. He's a very sad excuse for a president and I'll be more than upset if somehow he manages to be re-elected.
