Never in a million years could have seen this coming.

  1. I don't know about the workers' pay. I do know you are totally right about the CEO. Not just this one hog either.

I like the proposal from a compensation consultant who wrote a column several years ago decrying excessive exec compensation. He said every board should require the CEO to submit a letter specifying the minimum he would accept for the following year, with a signed letter of resignation should they choose not to accept it. He should also provide the name of a suitable successor within the organization, and if he couldn't, explain why he had not developed a succession plan. Needless, to say, no company adopted this sensible idea.

As a conservative, it pains me to say I now support some form of government oversight of compensation. Clearly we have a severely broken system of corporate governance that allows these obscene comp packages to become the norm.

I propose that total executive compensation be limited to 100 times the average annual salary of the lowest 10 percentile of employees. So if your lowest 10 percent average $40k, the max comp would be $4 mill, which strikes me as more than adequate. What about providing the necessary motivation for the future Jack Welches to roll out of bed in the morning and come to work? How about they spend their own frickin' money to buy stock in their companies? Little skin in the game never hurt anyone's motivation.

Stock options should be banned altogether. They are too susceptible to abuse, plus they offload a corporate expense, compensation, onto the shareholders.

Sure, mgt. was overcompensated just like at any other company. But in the end their stock options became worthless. Both mgt. and unions contributed to the outcome. But Odumbo stood up for the unions and their pensions while white collar retirees got the shaft losing up to 70% of their pensions.

It was five years ago this summer that 20,000 white-collar nonunion workers from Delphi (a leading auto parts company spun off from GM in 1999) had their pensions sabotaged as part of a rotten White House deal with Big Labor.

The abused workers — most from hard-hit northeast Ohio, Michigan and neighboring states — had devoted decades of their lives as secretaries, technicians, engineers and sales employees at Delphi/GM. Some workers saw up to 70 percent of their pensions vanish.

  4. And that's wrong. White collar employees should not be getting hosed like that while hourly workers suffered less of a consequence. Both equally contributed to a failed work environment.
If you remember(don't know if you were here or not) I was railing away during the 08/09 bailouts. My position was, and still is, if we were going to bail out failing and corrupt financial institutions, then we must bail out those who punch a time clock. The only exception I would have found acceptable would have been to bring criminal charges against those in financial institutions. In that case I would have said let GM fall. It can been argued that allowing those financial institutions to fail would have collapsed our economy to a point which would have created a state of anarchy. Those responsible for that should have been tried and executed for crimes against humanity, and I'm dead f'n serious about that. They destroyed the lives of tens of millions of people. What GM contributed to the mess pales in comparison.

If you were a teacher then I assume you're weren't highly regarded. Or else you ignored the reality of the situation. When did you teach? 1940s? I work with white, black and Hispanic kids .... sorry, but the black kids are the worst behaved. The most unruly. Have the crappiest parents overall. This is not an opinion ... it's years and years of interacting with both the kids and their parents.

No, I don't whine. I've put in probably 5000 hours the last 13 years. I could easily have earned $25/hour as a paid tutor. So I'd say a $125,000 contribution is something of value. Not to mention the 25,000 miles or so on my cars.

No solutions? I started a new math enrichment program at the school I'm at now. I have 2 schools fighting over me. I have Communities In Schools begging me to come back and volunteer with them again. I've received a number of awards and recognitions by various educational entities. My wife started a non-profit and raised over $400,000 to help kids learn science. Scores have doubled in science. This year the teachers told me at year end that their kids exceeded math targets by an average of 10% and felt I played a big role. Am I bragging? No ... just putting you in your place since you are so ignorant.

You continue to ignore the main problem .. people taking responsibility for their life. You, and many of the poor, are the true whiners.

Are the schools who are allegedly "fighting" over you aware of the extraordinary distaste for and low opinion of the people you work with? If so, there's something seriously wrong with this whole story you've woven.

    Serious question. Are you illiterate?

First, the people I work with are teachers and administrators. Are you sure you used to be a teacher LOL

You have a problem with someone who has given 5000 hours of his time to poor kids? A problem with someone who analyzes tons of test score data at the request of the Principal?

You have a problem with someone who sees the lazy parents who do nothing for their kids? Was it my responsibility to take a kid to middle school open houses? Nope. But the kid's fat ass Mom, who was unemployed but fully able to work, refused to take her straight A student to see what better options were out there. So I did and eventually got her into a charter school. Did Mom go to the lottery to see what kids got in? Nope. I did as there needed to be some person 'representing' any prospective student. Did Mom drill her daughter on spelling words prior to the spelling bee? No, again it was me spending hours with her and then being present at the spelling bee to support her.

I've not woven any story ... it never fails .. when you have no response that entails any sense of intelligence you resort to some one liner.

FACTS .. try dealing with them. And by the way ... both schools are well aware that I have criticisms of parents. You see, they feel the same way as they know that the major issues arise in the home. Again, doubtful you ever taught anywhere.

As I said in my other reply, we should go our separate ways. This situation of yours, if true, is just too dysfunctional.

  9. No one has any problem with you Dohhi,
thanks for all the hard volunteer work that you and your wife selflessly contributes to the community. It is too often taken for granted.

  10. Db has trouble coping when his liberal fantasies are shattered by hard facts. This reminds me of the other thread where he was pompously lecturing a black man about life in the black community.

The one constant is that nothing can be expected from anyone in a "victim" class. Liberals have a dictionary of put downs for you if you do. You're "blaming the vicitm", or tweeting Chris Matthews tiresome "racist dog whistle", or you lack "compassion" or perhaps "empathy". Then there's the new one, you're talking from "white privilege." How dare you!

We're not asking that welfare leeches work three jobs or get masters degrees. It would be nice if they at least tried to get jobs, kept their weight under 300 pounds, didn't have four kids with five different men, none of whom contribute a dime of support, didn't commit crimes and took minimal care of the taxpayer provided housing they live in. But no, that's asking WAY TOO MUCH. And all this talk about there being no jobs. How about they are required to put in some community service on city cleanup crews? Most urban landscapes can use some cleanup, grass and weed cutting, trash pickup, etc. Oprah can get by without you for a couple of days.

Liberals would probably call that modern slavery. They don't mind forcing high school kids to "volunteer" but not welfare recipients. No sir, that's out of the question.

And themain thing is, we don't want to stigmatize any 14 year old who is pregnant. If we did, her friends might take note and not get pregnant themselves. Anyway, everything is working out great, so why should we change anything? Just send more money.
