Just more bread and circuses. The fight is over who pays and it will not be the rich until the very end. I think we have many more innings to go before the end.
An example of the insanity and the indifference of the average human being: Like in every country the US needs a lot of money for education, infrastructure and so on. All the multinationals of the Fortune 500 evade massively taxes by all kind of constructions. But at the same time they make billions of profits in the US. For making these profits they need the infrastructure from the US (good roads, railways, water , energy....) for which they almost pay nothing and for which they ask the average American to take care of it financially. They also need skilled workers that have to take an education paid part by the government (which means the tax payers so not the multinationals) and part by the average American himself. This average American also has to buy these products so that these multinationals become more and more rich. So you could say that these multinationals use the average American as a kind of slave to get rich. Expenses are pushed at max towards the average American, and the profits are taken by the multinationals. And obviously everybody seems to find this logical and normal. People should say to these multinationals: pay correct taxes or we will not buy your products anymore. The fact that this does not happen means that the average American does not care about it. Starbucks did almost pay no taxes in the UK and made losses for almost 15 years by transfering the profits to a low tax heaven. Then consumers got mad and started a boycott . This was the result: Starbucks suddenly started to pay yearly 16.8 million $ taxes. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...op-starbucks-from-dodging-taxes-it-wont-work/
Student loans are the prime driver behind tuition increases and have caused universities to become unaffordable without debt; so I would really lay that completely on the government. Also, since the government issued that $1.1 Trillion in student loan debt, you could say that they are spending more than ever on university education... If millionaires truly did pay a higher effective tax rate in say the 80's and 90's, then I would agree with you that their rates could be raised a little; such as a 20% increase on millionaires would essentially have covered the half a trillion federal budget deficit last year if my rough numbers are right.
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-05-03/legal-corruption-us-meet-1-1-who-drive-american-politics Socialists love to incite class warfare by things like it's the 99% (them) vs 1% (us). But the controlling interests in a socialist society are just a different group of rich elite. They sell a dream that so many are willing to buy - that it was not my fault - something or someone outside caused my problem, I was hard done by, I have a horrible story, please listen! Infrastructure built by private industry is often superior to public infrastructure subject to corruption (witness Quebec's construction bidding hearings). Look at the internet as an example. Of course, for a few it really was not their fault or poor decision making so there is a tiny reality driving an urban myth IMO. Bad luck happens to the rich and poor alike. Much like the gluten-free craze, a very tiny few with truth drives the religious fervor of many deluded souls IMO. Fads pass and truth will endure.
