Need tips on shorting pre-market

  1. I need some of the more experienced daytraders in this illustrious group to give me some pointers. I have recently began trying to implement some strategy plays by shorting some fairly liquid stocks in pre-market, but I can't seem to get any fills. I completely understand the basic shorting rules, such as margin required, up-ticks, etc. I trade through IB, mark my orders GTC, and I leave my routing at the default SMART, so what gives? If anyone can give me a suggestion as to how to tweak my order to get a fill, I would really appreciate it.

  2. Check this:

If you go to configure, global configuration, order, order defaults, STK.... look where it says"Allow order to be filled in regular trading hours only"

    Make sure thats not ticked.

don't need an uptick on nas stocks in pre-mkt. only on NYSE/AMEX.

  4. Thank you both so much! I feel like an idiot, because the TWS setting was exactly my problem. I don't know why that never occured to me. And gaj, thanks for the tip, I never knew that the uptick rule wasn't in force for NAS pre-market.

  5. Why short?
We are in a bullish market.

By shorting you have less than 50% chances of profit.
Save shorts for the next recession.
