Need More Info on Dell 5820

  1. Well, the 3660 isn't going to work for you, so you might as well let the notion go.

Perhaps you care too much about the hardware when you should be primarily concerned about the job you want it to do.

The jump in prices should be an indication to "not buy right now".... prices will come down later. Only those who "gotta have it right now" will pay the inflated price.

You can buy used 5820 with warranty for a fraction of new... and have the same function/warranty as new. And have enough $$ left over for burritos and beer. :D

Here's an eBay link with one ready to go ($799) except for your video cards... expect to pay $500-$600 for the 3. Add a Square Trade warranty for 1 year and you're in it $1500 max... Even if you don't buy this, you can use it as a reference for performance and value for whatever you choose. And if you bought a 5810 instead, you can cut another $500 off the cost.

  2. That needs to be questioned. The specs on the i-x CPUs say they support only 4 monitors. I've seen other times when Dell's has been sloppy/wrong with description info. Then again, with DP you can Daisy Chain* monitors... I guess the CPU sees all in that chain as only one monitor??

However, Dell has 21-day free return (might be 30 days), no questions asked. So you could try something if you want.

*not just "any old monitors"... need to be ones manufactured to perform Daisy Chaining. The one's I've seen have "DP in" and "DP out" ports. Don't know if the same with DVI or HDMI.
